USA in comintern?

I'm having a bit of ahistorical game.
I'm playing as HUN and cheating (my game my fun) by adding some leadership.
So I used some spies on USA and SOV to support our party. Both country has around 50% support for fascist. USA has a fascist government. My secret wish was that maybe GER could invite USA to the Axis.

On the diplomatic triangle USA was firmly on the axis between Axis and Allies (about halfway) as far from Commintern as possible.

And then the JAP AI in its infinite wisdom (script or whatever), while being committed in eastern Russia attacked Pearl Harbour.

And then USA joined Comintern...

Anyone else have seen something like this?

Yeah, apparently if they're not firmly in the Allies side when they're attacked they go Commie. Presumably because the Soviets are no friends of Japan. Annoys the heck out of me.

Indeed. And all this because of the scripted embargo of JAP by USA and then Pearl Harbor.

Some diplomatic effect are better in TFH, for example now Germany declares limited wars on the Allies, so that not all Axis member are drawn into the war (as is historic, for example Hungary was not in war with France, Holland, Belgium).

But the scripted Japanese attack is frustrating. The JAPs are heavily involved in the China/Indochina theater, they would not go for some strange islands.

Historically I thought the Japanese were driven to declare war on the USA because of the embargo placed on them by the USA which left them without the resources to sustain their military ambitions in Asia. Has that not been modelled in HOI3?

I've not played Japan in HOI3 so i don't know what issues it has.

It hasn't really been modelled I don't think. Just sort of scripted. The US sets an embargo (I think, I'm not sure if that's scripted) then the Japanese attack regardless of their political/economic situation.

Thats certainly what happened in my US game, I ended up fighting Japan without joining the Allies or having to deal with Germany.
