Although the stock surrender events for USA and UK are more than sufficient, the no time limit patch changes things a bit, making them IMHO less relevant. If Europe falls to the Germans and FDR is dead, how would the Americans react? After all, even after Pearl Harbor, most Americans still felt the European war was none of their business. Why should they keep fighting if England is occupied, the Soviets either conquered or subdued via Bitter Peace, and the Axis in firm control of the Mediterranean and the Middle East? Wouldn't there be a strong case in both Germany and the U.S. to end the war? German supremacy in Europe could be seen as "contained" by the powerful USN, and how much longer could the German economy, so suddenly and violently expanded, support a sustained war effort? It seems to me this would be a logical point for the beginning of a US-GER cold war.
So...I've decided to creat an event series for those of us with the no time limit patch to simulate this ahistorical period. The conditions for the first event in which the US decides whether or not to keep fighting the Germans are...
1. Soviet Bitter Peace and no war between GER and SOV, or Soviet Union doesn't exist...Germany has defeated the SU
2. Neither USA, ENG, or FRA controls a single province in France, the Low countries, England, the North African Coast, or the Middle East to the Iraq/Persia border. They may be controlled by either GER, ITA, or German puppets...Germany has secured Europe and North Africa
3. Spain is either neutral or part of the Axis...removing it as a potential platform for liberation.
4. FDR is dead...without strong leadership, the USA would be more likely to submit to a peace with Germany.
The initial issues I've come up with that would have to be dealt with are...
The War in the Pacific --
1. If Japan is still a going concern, this would probably effect America's choice as to whether to continue the war against Germany. If Japan is still at war with the US, peace with Germany should be more likely. If Japan has been defeated, peace should be less likely. In any case, peace will be the more likely option.
2. If Japan is part of the Axis, does Germany abandon Japan totally, support her secretly, or refuse a separate peace?
Lebensraum -- What does Germany do with the newly acquired lands in the East (if they haven't been puppeted already)? Considering Hitler's plan to settle former Russian and Polish lands with Germans, at least some of the territory of the former SU should become core territories for Germany, but with lower manpower outputs initially, to be increased incrementally with time. This idea may be offensive, but it WAS the reason Hitler attacked the SU, after all. To remain within the bounds of Paradox's rules, this resettling will be handled like colonisation rather than the more brutal reality Hitler had in mind.
The Next Fuhrer -- Hitler isn't going to live forever, y'know. But will the new Fuhrer come from the Party or the armed forces? The world wonders.
The New Kriegsmarine -- If the USN is the primary barrier between Hitler and the New World, then the Kriegsmarine would likely get a major overhaul, paid for by the spoils of war, and a slashed army budget.
The Speer Plan -- With Europe devastated by war, a victorious Germany finds itself and its satellites beset by democratic extremists. Peace and economic growth are needed to defuse the situation, less the U.S. take advantage of the rampant poverty, particularly in England and the East.
I'm looking for ideas about other issues that are likely to arise in this world. Obviously, like the USA/USSR cold war, there are likely to be regional conflicts that embroil the superpowers, but where? Why? This is what I need help with. I'm also open to any criticism of the ideas I've already presented.
At the moment, I'm not planning on making an entire scenario, just a series of events added to the HOI2 event file to create the situation. I've played many games as Germany that generally come to the same point...Europe is conquered, but America is so far away. These events ought to make that situation much more interesting, and hopefully provide a little more story to the ending of the game, which of course will ultimately lead to some kind of confrontation between the two superpowers.
Also, anybody willing to help with more than just advice, but with research, event scripting, creating ministers, leaders, research teams, etc, would be VERY much appreciated.
