Hey guys,

did they say anything about allies and their operation overlord (d-day) ?
In hoi3 it was a big mess and I literally never saw the AI doing big invasions or US sending troops to afrika and europa.
Also, I am concerned about the AI if they are capable of sending troops to help me out if I plan an invasion with US for example.

Regards

There is plenty of evidence in the streams [available on YouTube now] of the AI doing or having done naval invasions.

In the latest one, CO-OP Red France, Japan did its historical [to an extent] Naval invasion of China, and made a some inroads into the mainland.

On the other hand, I have yet to see a Naval Invasion where the AI is actively helping out the player or nation.

But as for D-Day where other nations besides the US was involved I doubt it, as that would require a lot of coordination and I doubt the AI is geared to massive alliance invasions, at least on the planning stage. The AI may/will use the beach heads already carved out and/or reinforce the beachheads though.

So in conclusion, I am pretty confident that Canada and the rest of the Commonwealth will be able to its might to bear in Africa and Europe as well as the US.

I think it might be a nice touch if they allowed a supreme commander in the allies to take command of applicable allied units.

That would be AMAZING! Maybe have some sort of event the player of either USA or UK could select to ask for troops for an invasion of that size.

Yea something like this^ would really help things out no matter who you play. So it would be nice as an allied player, or also as an axis player so allied invasions would be a real threat. I'm just speculating here, but I'm afraid that on release we'll probably only see individual invasions performed peicemal by individual allied nations, which are easily countered and destroyed.

If the US, UK, and commwealth nations could have some kind of over arching AI that would essentially control all member nations as a single cohesive force, than the allies would be a much more capable opponent for axis players. This would of course would be a pretty major feature, that would likely only be doable in an expansion.

In the latest one, CO-OP Red France, Japan did its historical [to an extent] Naval invasion of China, and made a some inroads into the mainland.

I am not sure that counts since Japan already has a foothold in China, it is much more easy for the AI to get somewhere where it has a base in and much harder to establish a new foothold. This was is true for ALL Paradox games.

In fact, I am sure that's why Paradox chose to give Manchuria to Japan and not a puppet Manchuko to make it easier on the AI to advance in that front. The fact that we did not see other examples of naval invasions is a reason for concern...

Despite this, in "Their Finest Hour" there was a significant improvement with this mechanic so hopefully it will improve and we won't see the AI just sitting in its place wondering what to do...

Edit: The fact that troops no longer need "transports" units to cross the sea should also make it much easier on the AI to get the job done.

Perhaps there is already an option open for this...the Expeditionary Force??? I had not seen anyone use it, but in a multi-player game I think it would work out fairly well. I will look forward into playing some multiplayer games with a teamspeak or ventrillo voice chat server.

It's more important to have a way to ask the AI to do it, though. With multiple players and good communications, you can just co-ordinate.

Honestly I dont expect too much here but I really hope the US/UK AI will manage do to some at least okaish naval invasions together.
Well, to be fair I will play mostly as USA or Britain anyway so I will not have to puke because of some shitty 2div invasions like in hoi3

In Darkest Hour you could assume military control of allies which made naval invasions and cooperative operations in general much easier.

The main drawback is that you assume control of *all* units of that nation, which was a pain if you had to reorganize their air forces, navies, etc. This feature would be much better with the battle plan though.

I agree, I'm going to be playing multiplayer with 3-4 people almost as soon as the game launches and we're thinking about playing as the same nation or as a 2v2. 2 players play nations on the side of the Allies and 2 on the side of the Axis; or we have two people play as UK and Germany or something to that affect. I was also re-watching the old WWW playlist and I saw the Spain gave Daniel their troops for him to use, so maybe you could ask the UK as the USA for part of their troops for you to do whatever with.

I am not sure that counts since Japan already has a foothold in China,

I was more leaning towards the naval invasion south of the Japanese foothold. In the screenshot below you can clearly see several beachheads.

In one of the early WWW Daniel was given complete control (I think at least) of Spain's armies. Not the same thing and I haven't seen it since but could be helpful.

I would say that the proudest moment for any AI developer is when their own creation defeats them in an unexpected manner. For me, such a moment came about two weeks ago when I was playing singleplayer as Germany. I had taken over western Europe easily enough through careful planning and superior weaponry. Wanting to take out England before looking east I was covering guarding my coast in case the Allies got and D-Day ambitions, as well as making sure my border with Soviet was covered, while putting as much resources as I could towards building up my forces for a naval invasion of Britain. It was then that England and USA managed to overwhelm BOTH the Italian and Spanish coastal defenses and gain a solid foot hold. Sending troops to back my friends up, once they arrived both England and USA had landed A LOT more troops, overwhelming both the Italian/Spanish defenses as well as my reinforcements. I could probably have taken on one of them, but both together with such a solid hold in southern Europe was more than I could manage.
Save for that, my best days are when Da9l comes and tells me the AI kicked his ass in one way or another, or just forcing him to change his plans.

I just read this in the DDs for AI that gives hope I would say :)
