Southerners didn't even notice that the new law passed. They had so low CON. Or perhaps this represent compromise of some sort?

If only I had one more year in the demo, I would have had time to crush Mexico too. Then, after a year or two with influencing, I would have added her to my spheres, making my extended empire go from US proper to Equador, all the way. If I understand the decisions file right, I wold have got the option to buy Alaska too. Ah, the possibilities...

Yep you can buy it from mother Russia through a decision. I like to wait till they expand a bit. It's like a call option on a state.

But you can still see Russia from your house.

i didnt get the civil war, a fourteen year war with a british aggressor kept everyone too busy to think about slavery, so the war didnt happen early and time ran out before it did. certainly it doesnt come early everytime
has anyone seen the UCA fall apart? as i aint

~20% of the population supported it, a little more than 40% was liberal in the upper house and I had just got a couple of events that raised militarism. I think some of the conservatives crossed the floor.

You need plenty of luck. And enough support for making a legal change. In my case, I had ca 2 militancy, ~42% liberal support in the upper house and 20% of the conservatives crossed the floor. I think the militancy was what made it. But according to the tooltip, you need to have less than 3 militancy overall. Until PI change the setup, or someone makes a mod(f.ex. the proposed gag rule removed event someone mentioned earlier today), that's your only chance I think.

Keep average CON of all states under 5 (slave states) and 6 (non-slave states).

Can you avoid the US-Civil War? I can't...

My favourite Vicky country has always been the USA. I was obviously glad to see it being in the demo of Vicky 2. My plan for the first Vicky 2 game was a reactionary USA based on slavery and religious tyranny.

I picked every decision and event choice possible to lower consciousness and militancy of the Dixie population. Further more I encoured slavery and moralism. Tried to keep the liberals down. Yet all in vain.

It was just a matter of matter until the CSA seceded and I couldn't even let them be. I had to pick a side and then war broke out in 1849 (haven't I read about that before?).

I hope that the Civil War is not hard coded, but what else could I have done? Has anyone managed to avoid the Civil War in the demo? I want a Pol Pot like terror state and suppress all liberal movement. That should be possible.

Maybe I timed the decisions in such a way that I kept decreasing CON at just the right time. Who knows. But yeah, I think the ACW should definitely fire at a later date, unless the player really irritates the slave states with his actions. From what I've read it tends to fire in the 1840s for most people, which is a tad early.

People might be choosing all those "innocent" CON increasing event choices, though. Like I did.

I also managed to avoid the Civil War. In 1848 I got an event about a debate in the Upper House that gave me up to 20% more liberal support. With the liberals having 48% of the vote and 3% of the conservatives voting with the liberals, I managed to abolish slavery with a majority of 51%. Yay.

You get to choose side. Don't know about other nations, though. Not that there is many multi-nation civil wars.

I think you really need a lot of luck to avoid the ACW...almost did it but the last rearrangement of the upper house gave me 49% liberals T_T
