That, my friend, is patently untrue for the PC game market. Consoles, sure. Big box stores are a major source of revenue. However, PC game sales have, since at least 3 quarters ago, tipped past the 75% digital mark. NPD says 48%, but, being as I am "plugged in" to such things, know that developers for some time have been operating under the 25% retail sales assumption in the US and have yet to regret believing so.
Also, I cry for every tree, every oil pump, every power plant that has to supply the obsessive-compulsive desire for physicality with an intellectual product. The power that is required to store a digital copy is fractional compared to what it requires to fulfill an obsession with physicality.

I am a resident of and was born in NH. I lived in MA for a short time and I just haven't changed my "location" since then. That was an unwarranted jibe that rings false based on the many people I know from MA and am proud to call my friends. I am simply an individual that has strong feelings about excessive consumption for selfish reasons.
But yeah, go on and get your "physical copy". Don't bother to think or care about where it comes from.
I can understand your point of view but on the other hand there are lot of benefits of having a physical copy: Who knows what will happen to Gamersgate in the future... or what if I want to play the game on a PC with no internet access, you can say "go and burn it on a cd" but then what's the difference? I love to put my dirty little hands on things like a well-made printed map, etc. I don't think environment-friendliness starts here.
that you don't have to have a box on your shelf?... And i remember that my cousin used to have some special sort of dvd storage "bag" that could contain several dvds in the space a "box" would usually take.
Also, if you have a large enough memory stick, you can copy it to that instead... or an extern harddrive...
EDIT: the single greatest feature of having it on a dl site, is that if you move, you don't have to worry about losing the disc in the move. (which i've seen alot of people complain about)

I couldn't hold out for a box copy so I ordered from Gamersgate, besides it's easier in case I lose my disc
The Gamersgate download/installation procedure allows you to save the installer files locally for future use if you like. You're free to burn these to CD/copy to a USB key/etc if you want to preserve a "physical" copy of the installer in case you're not able to re-download from Gamersgate.
How so? Once you have completed the download (which you should only need to do once regardless of how many times you reinstall) it is much faster to install from the hard drive than from optical media. The game itself plays exactly the same speed.
Yes, but I like my box, papers, official CD/DVD, to have, stored away neatly, it's like I'm actually getting something extra for buying the game.
I don't want a Memorex CD with "Vicky 2" scrawled horribly across it, stored away in a multi-CD case.
This only applies to Paradox games though. I generally just go for whatever's cheaper, and if they're the same, boxed.
Installation, you mean? Without having to use bandwith to download it, (which can take over an hour) plus then having to install it.
I personally got sick of digital downloads.. I have to save the install data on dvds anyway so I prefer to already have it on physical support,.
The overall computer works better when it's reading it from a disk and not memory.

For you who asked if this is true for Amazon, yes. Amazon in the US will not get any copies to send out sooner than any other US store.
