That would be a cruel surprise for the uninitiated.

So many AC-10s to the face.
5 skull mission: eliminate a company of Urbies with damage buffed AC10+, and Heavy Turret support

Yeah, but just because the stock urbie has one single, serious design flaw: It carries a useless 11th HS instead of a 2nd ton of ammo, unneccessaryly limiting it's staying power. Sure, you can do alot of other improvements, but this is true for most of the stock loadouts. The 11th HS is just stupid design.
If you can manage your UM-R60 to survive, this AC10 can be really useful. I would totally field one in my lance if I had to field a light mech at all, I prefer firepower over scouting.

The stock urbies worst flaw (and certainly far from it’s only one) is that it is a 30 ton chassis that only has a max speed of 32KPH, not that it has 11 Heat Sinks. Which, is what I believe has allowed it to live on for so long. Because it has to “return to base” to refill it’s limited ammo supply assures that it will not remain in the field long enough to receive serious damage.

In this day and age there are incredible fast cars, luxury models or bolides that will haul tremendous amounts of cargo. Cars that blur out any noise, vehicles that can jump distances and overcome any difficult terrain that we can throw at it.
Yet one of the more iconic cars is the VW Beatle. Although that car can do none of the above (despite Herbie movies) it is an iconic car that most people love. A model that has been lovingly restored by numerous car enthusiasts, garages or amateur entrepreneurs because it is what it is... imperfection but damn good fun.
No one is saying the Urbie is so great, they are just saying not to underestimate it.

The VW Beetle is offended that you just compared it to the urbie. If the urbie was a car, it would be a P.O.S. like a Gremlin, Pacer, or Yugo, not something as awesome as a Beetle.

Indeed. The Urban is just a mobile turret and hopefully operating with other mobile turrets or even some HBK-4G's in a city setting. Urban runs out of ammo, and if using the whole 'rearm under fire' stuff, have support vehicles to fallback to and reload.

Urbies can be a nightmare. In beta I used to run Jenners for quick strikes in a back and then darting off with a double move. A well reserved Urbie or one with master tactitian ruins your day if you pull that off.
Also a single AC/10 can be more dangerous than a whole awesomes alpha.

It makes sense that Urbies would be rare on the front. Yes, their production numbers are high, and they are inexpensive... but they're also outdated.

One might take the Sherman tank or T-34 as examples: vehicles with extremely high production numbers that were pinnacles of their day, but you don't see modern militaries fielding them anymore because that would just get your tankers killed.

I would expect Urbs to be relegated to museums and/or the armories of backwater warlords in really specific sectors of space, not accompanying professional MechWarrior mercenary outfits into MRB-certified jobs. If nothing else, fielding Urbies in this time period would probably do significant damage to your reputation.

The game is set in 3025.
Everything is outdated.
Which means nothing is outdated.

Some old stuff is more Technologically advanced than the new stuff lol

Look at the Phoenix Hawk, It's original targeting system is so advanced that when it breaks it usually gets ripped out and a shiitier new one goes in cuz no one can understand and fix the one it came off the assembly line with Almost 450+ years ago

Honestly I can't tell who are the biggest fan boys anymore- Urbie or Quads lovers. :p

The Urbie gang, definitely them. But we both get picked on so we hang out together, we're like the shunned nerds of Battletech fandom :p

How about a Quad that uses urbies as Legs.

A quad with an Urbie riding it acting as a turret! :D

....but they're also outdated.

One might take the Sherman tank or T-34 as examples..... you don't see modern militaries fielding them anymore because that would just get your tankers killed.

Your comparison is irrelevant.....

The game is set in 3025.
Everything is outdated.

...because this.
I would accept the Sherman/T-34 comparison if modern armies still fielded tanks older than either of them.

I'm not an urbie fanboy. I think it has it's use in certain situations. Yeah, you wouldn't want it to escort your convoy, but a jumping ac10 (basically a popup-turret, slightly more mobile :D ) has it's moments.
Reserve down, jump up a hill, fire, jump back. If you want to punish your "ace pilot"-guy, put him in there for double efficiency. He might even survive taking a few hits.

Yeah, because they had to close range with it to be effective. The coolest weapon does you no good if you cannot get into range with it.

Hey, he had a PPC on there ;).

Besides, that is a joke video, so I wouldn't take that too seriously.
