Do you guys always upgrade your units? Playing as Germany, in late 1939 I am at Panzer III medium tanks, but with the next tech I assume all of my tanks will upgrade to Panzer IV. I don't really like that you upgrade all of everything, so when I get to Panther I assume all of my medium tanks will become Panther's. I saw that you can turn upgrade off, but I don't mind my motorized units getting upgraded, so it seems its an all or nothing option. Also, is there anyway to see what type of tank you are researching or producing besides viewing the unit that is already placed?

Regarding Poland, every game I have started so far when I defeat Poland they are an occupied country, this time however, they were annexed. The only thing I did different was invade Poland at the more historical Sept 1939.

Historical model names are nothing more than eyecandy. you always want the latest model weapons and tactics present in your units. they always improve the stats of your formations.
the only reason to block upgrading on units is to prioritise other units in case you don't have enough IC to do them all at once.

you can see what model you are researching in the tech tree. I believe that one should be the model coming after the model your units currently carry (if they are completely upgraded).

the Poland thing is a chance thing. When a nation surrenders (and they are part of a faction that still has fighting members) there is a chance they surrender completely, and a chance they become a government in exile and their territory gets listed as occupied.
Once you beat the last major power in that faction, all occupied nations should get annexed.
