I'm supposing here that the cost of a 5 star advisor will work like a 1 to 3 star advisor, ie exponentially increasing.

But simple question, does a discounted minister (recruit from Estates) carry the (sizable) discount to the salary to the promotion cost ?

-A five level advisor would cost in 1444 25 ducats per month
-A three level advisor would cost in 1444 9 ducats per month
-A three level advisor estate recruited would cost in 1444 4.5 ducats per month

The ''five years of his salary'' for promotion alone make the discounted three star dude from the estate a very sexy bachelor. But if the game have him carry the ''half salary'' across the promotions, this means the base cost following current model would be 13.5 ducats per month for a 5 star minister (imagine now a savy Catholic player rolling Full Innovative, Curia Control, Espionnage first idea that no one ever takes, Advisor Cost Reduction from parliament...)

TLDR : there is an extremely basic and dirt cheap estate interaction (not to mention Innovative or the pretty useful parliament ruling) that can lower significantly the cost of this feature, and make it less a ''money sink'' than a ''MP fountain''

But wouldn't this force a player to devote a huge amount MP to get it up and running as well as forcing them into a particular government type. It also means that you have to take what is otherwise a garbage idea group to make the most of this. So this seems less gamey and more like a very narrow strategy.

The only exception I can think of would be a parliamentary republic which could do this and game reelection cycles to have infinite mp.

Well, if you are England....Innovative is a pretty bad idea group, I concur, but most players can have discounts on ADMIN and DIPLO advisors)

I already use estate advisors the majority of the time. Seriously, that 50% cost reduction for no cost at all is huge.

With the new promoting system in place that could snowball even further. Just a quick thought here: Which culture and religion will a clergy advisor have? --> Well, probably your culture and definitely your religion.

So you not only would get them 50% cheaper but you are probably also guaranteed to be able to promote them.

Estate advisors are already superior to normal advisors and I hope Paradox balances them out by denying them the promotion system. This way there wouldn't be that "only" one right choice when it comes to advisors.

Yeah, I was just saying that of all mechanics in game, advisor cost is very easy to control. +2 +3 reduced costs advisors keep popping during games and a lot of nations can produce them more or least at will with Estates.

I'm supposing here that the cost of a 5 star advisor will work like a 1 to 3 star advisor, ie exponentially increasing.

Advisor costs don't go up exponentially, they go up quadratically. But maybe they *should* go up exponentially to make the top advisors a more serious money sink for major powers, or perhaps overclocked advisors should come with some sort of political hazard (think how much political power a 5-point advisor would represent...).
