Just some idea that jumped me while looking at the Canada screenshot.
Instead of having to pull your armies of the line to upgrade them, wouldn't it be cool if they upgraded themselves gradually while still on the frontlines?
They would receive new equipment instead of old when being resupplied. Of course this would take a lot of time to complete, but at least you can keep them in action. Their stats like soft attack, defence, org,... would also gradually increase then. This applies especially for infantry units, less so for armored and air units, because the drivers and pilots need to be trained in the use of their new rides. It would also be nice if you could prioritize certain units to be upgraded first and faster than the others. This new upgrades slider would be perfect for it, don't you think?

Maybe that's exactly what the Upgrade-slider is supposed to do ... who knows ... not a bad idea ... but I have a feeling that exactly what you described has been on the drawing-board all along ...people here (me included) have been nagging about this for long enough
