It's been like a year since I last played Hearts of Iron II, and before I started playing again, I decided to update my program to reflect the minister +% research fix in patch 1.3. It still doesn't have moddir support, but I might look into implementing that in the future.

If you've never installed Research Assistant before, download the hoi2ra.zip and run the setup program. The file is kindly hosted by the Total Realism Project website.

If you already have a previous version of my Research Assistant program installed, just download the following file and unzip it into the directory that you installed the program to. You need to download this update even if you get the setup program from the Total Realism Project website listed above.

If you're unfamiliar with my program, it provides accurate predictions of when research will be finished. Here's a screenshot:

1.3b doesn't change the HoI2 exe and hence any research calculations, so it doesn't affect my program. Research Assistant has always read the tech data from HoI2's files (it's not hardcoded), so if you alter them, those changes will be reflected by my program after you restart it. So in short, yes, it's completely up to date with 1.3b.

I would like to say thanks Executor, i was already using your programm, it works like a charm. Whenever i was in doubt what to research= windows-key, start your program, problem solved. I'm using it rarely now but it really helped me to understand the research mechanics.

Edit: Cynic, you can minimize HoI2 unless your playing on 300mhz!?!

Yes, but it's even more convenient to be able to browse tech trees (inside the game) on one computer while checking times and best teams on another. Furthermore, in peacetime I don't even have to pause while doing a little research planning on another computer.

I just want to say that this is really an awesome little tool ... it helps so much in assigning teams; often I find myself picking someone I would not have gone with normally and the research is A LOT quicker!!! Thanks again.

As a slight aside, would it not be possible to have the option to sort the techs alphabetically? It kills me to look through a jumbled list when I know what I'm looking for ... it just makes things more tedious than they need to be.

You did a good job! No question.

But I'm not sure if there is a small bug in it? If you want to research secret weapons like nuclear waste bomb, semi-fisson bomb and so on the assistant told me to take Konrad Zuse (playing as Germany in version 1.3a). He has a skill of 7 points and has the tiles mathematics, electronis and mechanics.

In my opinion Werner Heisenberg should make this job better, because he also has skill of 7, but the more specific nuclear physic, nuclear engineering and mathematics.

To research the nuclear waste bomb technology you need 8 nuclear engineering, 6 electronics, 7 mathematic, 6 chemistry and 20 nuclear physics.

If you really are looking into mod-dir support, I'd rather have a user-selected db directory pointer. Iirc, both TRP and CORE are only available as parallel installs now, and Starfire must be a parallel install for MP to work (and it is intended as an MP mod).

So I'd love to have the RA be able to point at my C:\Games\Hoi2\>, C:\Games\Starfire\>, and C:\Games\TRP\> directories. Stonyroad still uses mod-dir, but alot of users of HoI2 mods in general can't use it.
