[UPDATED 24/05/17] Monetizing from Youtube videos containing Paradox Interactive material!

What I want to ask specifically is if I may use Paradox Interactive soundtracks and music taken out of the context of their games. That means I might be able to do a lets play about EU4 but am I allowed to use the soundtracks in EU4 and CK2 for videos not related with the game itself and monetize them with ads?

I'm not sure what you mean. Not just playing with the sound on, but having the soundtrack run in the background?

If you are talking about games made by PDS, that should work fine. Games published by us, I don't know.

Edit: I don't know, because I work in the studio, PDS, so I mostly know about our own stuff.

Does displaying 'Copyright © 2015 Paradox Interactive AB. www.paradoxplaza.com' with the video mean you claim copyright of the entire video, including commentary, non-game music or sounds like intros, and personal logos etc?

Edit: And if so, would you then be able to use that video footage as you wish, for whatever reason?

Straight from our legal department:
We don’t claim copyright of the entire video, only of what comes from our game.
Therefore we will never claim copyright on the commentary, non-game music or any other materials which Paradox has not created.

What is paradox's stance on monetising youtube videos of gameplay with mods?
Is that still fair game or does it depend on which mod is being used. eg: Using something such as MEIOU or HIP is good but using something like AGOT or Elder Kings is not?

As long as you stream something you made (not just rebroadcasting something we did) we don't have anything against monetizing streams.

I must confess I don't know much about hitbox though, so I reserve my right to change my mind later But from what I can see I don't see why it would be different from twitch.

In the letter linked on the front page it clearly states twitch is ok with the exception of the EU4 Sabaton Soundtrack

Please note that the letter has been updated slightly as of today (June 3rd 2016).

No major changes. Just covering the Sabaton content for Hearts of Iron IV as well (you are not allowed to broadcast content with the Sabaton DLC's enabled since we don't own that fully)

We're investigating what might be the problem, if it's something in the license agreement for the music of it's some issues with YT not updating with new licences fast enough. The idea is that all music in Steel division should be stream-able and available in LPs, which is why the monitization doc hasn't changed. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also any info on WHO the ID claims are coming from are helpful, so we can follow up if it's an YT issue. You can PM that to me or TheLetterZ as not to clutter the thread!

Hi everyone! After much investigating we've found that the music licence in Steel Division: Normandy 44, which has mostly licences music, does not cover third party sub-licencing. This means that certain tracks can not be streamed or monetized.
We've added an in-game warning, and if you plan on monetizing video of the game, turn off the music in settings.
We're updating the document in this thread to exclude Steel Division: Normandy 44. Sorry for the inconvenience!

One of my video of Empire of Sin got a copyright claim.

Can someone confirm if it is expected or not? From the paradox authorisation, Empire of Sin should be clear (but as it was not updated recently maybe it's not up to date with it).

I've pinged the EoS team so they can investigate it further.
