If XBox sales helps finance further development I'm for it

If XBox development takes away from PC development or, more importantly, if it limits the PC development because it has to restrict power because of Consoles in-built limitations, spec wise, then this is a bad move.

What about the whole Steam Workshop integration Skylines has going on? Doesn't that kind of get in the way? Or won't modding be open for Xbox gamers?
All the modding support from Elder Scrolls games, which makes those game that as great as they are, is also completely missing on consoles...

Will you also be working to get Cities to work with DX12?
Why?

How exactly would the controls work in a gamepad?
In a Steampad demo they actually use Skylines to demonstrate the pad. But then again, the Steampad is a special pad, so yea, good question.

But who's gonna install 3DS Max, Sketchup or Blender etc. on Xbox1? When we make mods, we are back and forth between our programs and the game. It's waaay more convenient on a PC.

I do not think they mean the Xbox One to become a developers/modders tool; just a platform to "consume" entertainment/games in.

As for controllers, connecting keyboards and mice to Xbox One works. With Windows 10, it will get driver support for a wider range of devices. The hassle may be the cables most keyboards/mice have.

I think it would have been nice to have had a few expansions for the PC version, to repay PC Gamers community for their very positive support, before spreading their resources across different platforms. I was really hoping for some news on a expansion to the game around now. Though I am still a very loyal gamer and the game is still amazing

I really don't understand this almost pathological hatred of consoles that some members of the PC community have.
Only those who refuse to accept that PCs are generally superior.

I wonder if this announcement has something to do with supposed keyboard and mouse support on Xbox? I cannot imagine playing C:S on a gamepad....

No. I consider PCs generally superior to consoles yet am not inordinately hateful towards people who prefer to console game.

I also have 0 fear regarding this expansion of the game. Will it take away some programming time? Of course. Are they doing this 100% for money? Of course. But they also made C:S originally for money. They gotta eat. And buy houses. And all the same stuff you do your job so you can do.

Most importantly, though: Will the extra money allow them to devote more time and programmers to both continuing this game and making more? By all means yes.

I know someone with a PS4 who would be rather bummed. I convinced him to buy the game but he just cant bring himself to play it very much as he sits in front of a computer all day for work - I can respect that. Obviously a smart revenue stream for Paradox/CO but I hope that's all it is.

hmm, I'm all for porting to xbone, but I worry about support. Does the xbone have any modding support already? I can't see MS letting users have too much access to the OS as it will become hacked. I know the xbone is an intel system much like PS4, but not sure if it'll be a standard win10 install. I'm sure it will be a crippled version for security's sake.

We must need mouse and keyboard support to play. I have a 2-in-1 laptop in tablet mode and the game is not very touch screen friendly, hopefully they offer better touch screen support.

But xbone support should be great for the time being as they are way more powerful than most laptops by far. So being able to play my PC games on the xbone would be a huge plus.

I wonder how difficult it would be fore sony to port games over as they too use intel hardware like xbone, but PS4 has more power currently.

On ParadoxPlaza they have more info on the xbox version. Apparently it will have gamepad support and won't be ready until 2016 sometime.

STOCKHOLM – Cities: Skylines, the best-selling city-builder from Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order, will be released for the Xbox One and Windows 10 in the near future. Releasing for a console for the first time, Cities: Skylineswill become available for the Xbox One in 2016, allowing console gamers the chance to experience the game that has been called “the finest city builder in over a decade.”

Optimized for play on a controller, Cities: Skylines for Xbox One will introduce the creativity and strategy of Colossal Order’s hit game to a new audience. Gamers on both Xbox One and Windows 10 will have the chance to lay down roads, zone districts and services, and fall madly in love with Chirper. You guys know that the only way the Xbox One processor is even half decent is if all the cores are utilized very efficiently, right? I can't imagine it being a good experience when the city hits ~40k and the simulation speed falls to the lowest setting.

The port will likely be relatively cheap to make and will almost certainly sell really well so good for CO. I would absolutely do the same thing in their position. I also think people are underestimating how well a game like this could port to a console. Yes, compared to M/KB controls it won't be as good, but for people used to consoles I think they will be able to come up with a control scheme that works fine. One of the most popular mods on Steam allows more easily snapping to specific angles, so even PC gamers are interested in that type of added control which will almost assuredly be the base for console controls.

If the lack of processing power forces them to cut back on the size of cities in some way, I think that will also be fine. The overwhelming majority of console gamers won't even know what they are missing. The same is true for mods.

The baseline Skylines game is very fun and I doubt there will be much of any problem porting over that basic experience to the consoles.

The price point will also be a huge bonus if they are going to be selling it for the same $29.99 price. Console gamers are used to paying $60 for new releases. If console gamers think they can buy the game and put 20-30 hours into it building up a couple cities, they will look at that price as a bargain compared to their typical game purchases (the average play time on PC according to steamspy is 25 hours, FWIW).

I think Skylines is capable of being a game enjoyed by casual players in an unmodded setting on console and PC while also being a game more hardcore PC gamers can enjoy due to modding. Given how open they are to modding and how much they have already listened to PC gamers, concerns about the direction of the game are very premature. Consoles should be looked at as a very ripe untapped market that will increase their revenue and allow them to improve their games going forward.

How exactly would the controls work in a gamepad?
This is the question in my opinion. That said, I'm intrigued. I hope they'll also add controller compatibility to the PC version as well.

This argument is as old as the internet, why should console players be denied city builders and strategy games, why should pc gamers be denied good sports and racing games. Not being able to properly design and optimise your game for the platform you're selling it on is poor design, not that the platform is inherently bad at the game type.
Eh, some PC games clearly would be very hard to play on certain consoles. I mean, can you seriously imagine playing a game as complex as EU4, or any Paradox game for that matter with a controller or on a 3DS? Conversely, playing Pokemon on a PC emulator is an inferior experience to playing it on a handheld. I mean, I'm sure there are ways to make the control scheme work, but I think it's fair to say some platforms are just inherently not suited to some types of games.

I wonder how difficult it would be fore sony to port games over as they too use intel hardware like xbone, but PS4 has more power currently.

Both the new consoles are APUs made by AMD, not Intel. In terms of modding support, the Fallout 4 announcement also included that consoles would have access to PC mods (and apparently all of them, not just a curated bunch, as has been the case in the past when mods have come to console games), so it sounds like it is possible.

In terms of controls, I've played city builders with a pad before (I've played Civ 2 on a pad on the original Playstation, although it was better with a mouse - I actually found Railroad Tycoon 2 on the original Playstation worked pretty well though - and it's probably a better example, as a lot of what you do in Cities: Skylines involves laying down transport networks), and it works fairly well. You'll never get the precision of mouse control, but most of the time you don't need it. It won't be as easy as with a mouse, but it won't be unplayable by any measure.

Also, I wouldn't worried about titles being 'dumbed down' for console (or tablet, or etch-a-sketch. Actually, etch-a-sketch could be a problem....) - while there have been some design changes made for consoles in the past, by and large most games ported to console are anything but. It's just more money and popularity for the game. It's also worth not underestimating the capacities of console gamers. In my long years on both sides of the fence, I've seen no evidence to suggest one audience or the other are more or less capable of complex games, just that the console interface doesn't suit a lot of the games PI publish.

We are happy to announce that Cities: Skylines is coming to Xbox One!

More information will be shared about this exciting and awesome project in the near future but for now feel free to discuss it here!

A small note that you should all know: This announcement doesn't mean that we will stop working hard on the PC version, not at all, it just means that we are taking Cities: Skylines to a new level!

Again, I'm just wondering why this post does not qualify as a "Official Information & Announcements"?
