"Hey guys, our development diary writer went on a Christmas vacation but then that country went in lockdown and he still cannot return to Sweden; that's why we didn't write anything since January. Our content designers did finish one flavour pack so you can have that I guess, hope it wasn't too much inconvenience."

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the next dev diary will explain how we're gonna get new infos over the next months, like a „timeline“ for dev diaries. Really have to set back my expectations now, I really tried not to be disappointed but at least it‘s reassuring they're expanding

I don't think it's war focused, if it was - war would be better implemented and tactically deeper, it's just that the war is the only thing you can actually DO.

What I believe the focus was, not only after a 100 hours of gameplay, but also what I suspected prior to release, watching the promo videos of two guys playing and reacting to some events and situations in the game, is that they read humorous and highly rated Steam reviews and built the game around that.

Basically, their priority were the memes.

In CK2 priority were your stories, that generated the memes organically, through player experiences (every playthrough was truly a unique story), in CK3 they went straight for the meme content without the actual meat of the experience.

I feel like it was more like:
"Haha imagine when they create a lineage of genius inbred beautiful strong albino dwarves who rule the world through a dynasty of thousand Muslim Tyrions"
instead of being something like:
"Hey, look at this event storyline I wrote, does it seem fun?"

I agree with this 100%.
If I may put in my two pennies worth I believe Ck3 does create interesting original stories. I would personally say that the stories which happen organically are more important than the ones that are scripted It is far more interesting to have your vengeful uncle assassinate you and then start a rebellion to seize the crown than for example having another game of chess with Death over your life, even though I really like that event in Ck2. These scripted events are great for adding spice and we surely need them but is still possible to have great stories without it.
I also don't think the focus of the Devs on memes does the game any great harm, broken seduction mechanics aside, thank God there are mods for that, many memes in Ck2 came out of the wonkiness the game could display at times together with a few fun absurd and ultranatural events which we funnily lack (for better or for worse, I personally miss them).
It isn't really fair to criticize Ck3 for a lack of content in comparison with Ck2, it had about 8 years of adding content after release, I personally never had the courage to try the original vanilla Ck2, however, I am sure it wouldn't fare any better content wise than Ck3 and gameplay wise Ck3 steamrolls Ck2 even now (at least when considering the main features). The systems Ck3 is built on are really solid and I personally can't really get myself to go back to Ck2 even though I originally thought that I would switch between them for some time after release.
It sucks to switch to a game with less overall content, but I am sure if we wait a year or two, Ck3 will surpase Ck2 by a long shot, Paradox would be foolish not to use all the potential the game has. And the modding scene surely will take advantage of it as a bonus.

Maybe they have delayed the diary to not take away the hype from Imperator Rome 2.0? :)
Is that game any good? I tried it on the release but was confusing...

More than a year ago (around Christmas 2019) it was the poorest designed of the Paradox titles, by a significant margin. Everything that could have been designed and implemented wrong was there (and by that time they already got rid of the infamous "mana" feature that caused a rage among the users).

Since then I never touched it again but I've heard significant parts of it were redesigned from scratch, so, perhaps things have changed. Hopefully it also has now a large host of more properly designed events covering all parts of gameplay to give character and soul to a game that worked similar to a spreadsheet where your single and only objective was to paint the map in your own color.

Can't disagree with much of that, I hope it truly gets fleshed out and I believe it will. I just hope they enjoy themselves while making it. It does have a much stronger foundation, that's a fact.
I will rely on mods for some things, though.
The map, I'll continue playing the game when/if SWMH mod comes out, or when they themselves fix duplicate counties, wrong and missing cultures, missing cultural names... Or if none of that happens, when I learn how to mod it myself, but not sure if I'll have the time.

Hi, I was going to PM you but it says you don't accept them. You could check out the mod in my sig - it's not a substitute for SWMH but may at least be of interest until larger mods come along. It adds the missing CK II cultures and many more, as well as missing religions and lots of new historical stuff, bug fixes, etc.

Agreed, mods are a must have at this point, which is really a shame, hunting achievements could be fun in Ck2. One of the things I personally am looking forward to is being able to gradually disable some mods as features get ironed out, until then I am really glad how mod-friendly Paradox is.

Mods are a must at any point. At the very least the personal mods that turn the game more for our liking.
