Update on Australian and New Zealand pre-orders [EDIT: September 7, 2020]

Ok I turned out on all the CK3 stuff for the last week or so to not over hype myself. What is going on here I've only just heard about this. Has this been resolved or is the key I got in my email not going to work on steam, I'm confused.

Yeah, of course. Most likely you'll need to do that to be registered as owning the game so you can download it at release.

Am very curious to see if it activates for you. I'm one of the very early pre-orderers on Steam, so if this works its promising it will activate for us tomorrow morning.

In trouble with who? Publishers have been slamming the ACB for at least the last decade and there's no law that prevents it.

The only other legal stuff might be paradox's contract with their local representative. Of course, this would only be a problem if they had to say something bad about their local representative.

Given that Paradox outsourced the ratings process for Australia, they might be unclear on how much they can safely say about the ACB's processes and erring on the side of caution. That said, I do think it's more likely an issue with the third party representative, in which case it's unlikely Paradox will risk a lawsuit by throwing them under the bus.

It releases in around 14 hours in Australia, September 1 was never the Australian release date.

Paradox has said they're "honoring existing pre-orders" - whether of not this means we're allowed to download these once unlock was meant to happen still appears to be seen, we'll find out in 14 hours.

The fact it is in my Steam library with an unlock date of tomorrow bodes well, I hope.

As much as the Australian censors are useless and their obsession with being overly harsh on games is bloody frustrating, this is clearly a Paradox problem. They or their agent have had months to ensure everything was in place for release.
