I was holding off a little bit later keeping up to date the the CK3 vids on youtube, by the time I went to buy it through steam it was already blocked. Feelsbadman.
Can we get an update on this?Currently the sales of CK3 in Australia and New Zealand are halted as we are investigating matters having to do with age ratings. We’re working on resolving this as soon as possible and Paradox will honor already placed pre-orders.
[EDIT: August 21, 2020]:
The situation in New Zealand has now been resolved. Preorders will resume as usual. We will keep our Australian community updated with development as soon as possible.
[EDIT: August 26, 2020]:
We are still working to make the game available for purchase for the Australian audience, but unfortunately we do not expect this situation to be resolved before the global release. Making the pre-order bonuses available for anyone in the affected territories that might have missed out is also part of these investigations. Already placed pre-orders will be honored from Paradox side
I can't swear on it, but from past posts by Paradox I got the impression that they'll provide updates ASAP once they have one they are going to share. Can we get an update on this?
It's available in New Zealand now. Only Australia still has issues. Is there a method of buying CK3 in which paradox sends you a redeem code for their own launcher ? If that were purchased in the US would it work for someone in NZ to install it ? Lets say it's a gift from a brother living in the US .
Even better, send a letter (snail mail). They get taken much more seriously. When an MP and/or minister receives a letter, the thinking is along the lines of "The person who goes to the trouble of sending real letters is almost certainly an active voter, and possibly a donor." While a person who sends an email gets thought of as "Well, this person has a computer."
They do read emails as well, but they don't have close to the same weight. I've never gotten anything more than a form response to an email, but back in Canada I got a personalized response from a minister's office, and actually got the change I asked for (admittedly a smaller change than changing or abolishing a legally enforced ratings system).
And of course always be polite.![]()
You may be right. I wouldn't know. I can only go by the information I was given, but that was in training conducted by real political lobbyists. I find it doubtful that they'd be so misinformed, but of course anything is possible. Though I hope you'll forgive me if I take their word over yours, since to me you are a random person on the Internet whom I don't even know.Again disagree. Without revealing too much personal information I have worked in and around ministerial offices for years. We made no distinction between correspondence received physically or digitally. An issue such as this, while extremely important to us player of Paradox games, , will be seen as minor, handled by a junior staffer, and the best you will get is a polite form type letter saying that the policy is written with the best interests of the broader community in mind, blah blah blah.

(Also my own personal experience confirms what I was taught, but I realize that that is just anecdotal.)
EDIT: Perhaps there is a country difference? I'd imagine that politicians might respond quite differently to constituent communications in different countries.
I can't say whether what you say is correct or not, but it sounds reasonable to me.Of course, no offence taken. I réalise too I have no other posts on the forums other than this thread - I used to have an account back when HOI3 was in development but I lost access to that email and couldn’t reset it.
Anyway, again from my experience - in Australia both local members and especially ministers will receive hundreds of letters a week. unless it’s from a person of significance or a major issue of widespread community concern it will be passed to the relevant government department to answer. If there are only a few letters on what will look like people simply complaining their favorite new game isn’t being made available, it will be seen as extremely low priority. The issue will not be taken seriously unless it is perceived to have major political repercussions.
I’m not saying democracy doesn’t work -rather that people write in with pet peeves all the time and until enough people make an issue of political significance it just won’t register.
Perhqps it’s my frustration at the situation shining through, but I’ve just seen this way too many times. I hope I’m wrong.
We have a fundamentalis Hillsong christian running the place. CK3 or CK2 for that matter doesn't exactly present christianity or religion in general in a very good light. Wouldn't surprise me if it was something along those lines.I am glad I preordered before this started. I bet you anything the problem our ratings board has is because of the nudity and not the violence
Which is bloody stupid, I'm Catholic and love CK2, my Catholic friends all love the game.We have a fundamentalis Hillsong christian running the place. Just wanna put it out there, considering PDX is honouring pre-orders, it's likely they're fighting to get an R18+ knocked down to MA15+ as importation and possession of RC games as actually illegal. So much so that the government considers them contraband akin to methamphetamines, explosives, and firearms.
Think I'm joking? The ACB have a whole page on illegal imports and exports on their website.
Yep, it's the standard customs laws. Big jail time possible. So I suppose we're safe from being lashed with RC at least.
If that is the case why not just release it with the higher rating and try to get it reviewed afterwards. How many of the core audience of this type of game are realistically less than 15 anyway?Could even be a fight over Paradox wanting an M rating but the board insisting on an MA 15+. Personally, I think that's the most likely case.

Once you are past 18 ratings don’t mean anything, and it’s not like they are going to be doing a physical console release and have parents inadvertently buying off the shelves in EB Games for their kids at Christmas.
Further why would’ve third parties like Fanatical refunded/stopped selling it. Surely it has been refused classification and the stores and Paradox fear getting fined.

We've had Witcher 2 and 3 which had no shortage of nudity, even POE2 had some minor nudity, so not sure that's it either.
The whole thing makes no sense. We can read a novel about a sorcerer blowing up a village, but we can't read the events related to a kill plot? It's all a bad joke.
Thanks Rod for keeping us as updated as you can and good luck dealing with our backwards government who are stuck in the 1950's
