Update cannot find installation of CKII

I transferred my download of Crusader Kings 2 from my old laptop before it finally broke. It works fine, I placed it in the same path it was located on my laptop, and the folder for it exists in My Documents as well as under program files. The DLC I had to redownload works fine, but when I try to download the latest patch (v1.111) it says it cannot find the installation of CKII, and closes. should I just reinstall it, or is there an easier solution?

That patch is for the GamersGate version only, AND the base game must have been installed on that machine so that the instaler crates all the right registry settings for the patch installer to find. So you'll have to install the game itself properly first.

If you have the Steam version you do not need to patch it manually, Steam does it for you - so you need to run Steam on that new machine, it will patch for you.
