What's left for CK2? Between the improved vassal management mechanics from Conclave (which became exponentially more fun once Infamy was disabled) to the fact that we can now play just about every except Theocracies(which I feel would be boring), what could be left for CK2?

Personally, I'd like to see a revamp of war. Events focused on campaigning and cool things happening in the middle of battle (beyond just duels). As it stands, war in CK2 feels borderline monotonous, but I think it could be a great opportunity for characters to grow through their experiences.

Well, they said in an article that the remaining expansions wouldn't be on the Conclave level of adding mechanics, but instead would be more like Ways of Life with different themes sadly.

I agree, I wish they would overhaul and add more depth to warfare. Maybe they will change their mind, but they've got a new smaller team and with the back lash of Conclave... I don't know.

I just hope that one day non-norse pagans will get some flavour. Especially Romuva pagans, as they remained pagan for the longest time of them all.
And I wish that one day playing as a Tribal wouldn't be just hoarding prestige and fighting about 3 wars per character.

I think / hope it will be buildings of some sort next. Possibly with Tech which really needs an overhaul.

I say this because I remember they mentioned something like hey maybe some new stuff to build in forts? But it didn't make it in.

Since the DLCs are supposed to be smaller in the vein if WoL, I'd probably put my money on a tech overhaul or the infamous "Myths and Legends" that the forums have been asking for since forever. Could maybe see something for the Crusades, but I feel like that would have been done by now if they were going to do it.

Edit: After seeing the latest dev diary, I might have to change my "bet" to be a DLC revolving around the theme of death since we're getting another overhaul of diseases. Maybe we'll get some new to execution options and/or ways to punish other characters for crimes they've committed plus maybe an overhaul for plots.

I second the notion that it could or should be about the crusades.

As fun and interesting as I find the current implementation it really should be updated. Simply because it doesn't emulate history that well.

Honestly that should've been done by the Old Gods expansion. Except we found out that it's a mostly Norse centric one, with some lip service for Romuva, Slavic, and Suomenusko. Meanwhile Tengri is very boring unless playing as a nomad, but then again, those were nomad related events, not tengri centric. Same for West African, after reforming there is nothing minus great holy wars. I'm sure there's plenty of events that could be added to these two to make it more fun.

The Horse Lords did add events to make Tengri more fun, but those were again, for nomads, not just tengris.

Source: I played as Turkish nomads, reformed Tengri, and then settled in Persia. No fun religious events at all.

I think they should add monasteries. With forts and trade posts we have martial and commercial provincial holdings. Time to show the religious some love. They could be owned by the non-military religious orders or both types of orders. There's a lot of potential there to make the game deeper.

Perhaps a late game dlc dealing with the early Renaissance and the transition from heavy cavalry and feudal part time levies to gunpowder and standing professional armies, with cadet lines and naval combat included in the accompanying patch.
