How would making it harder to convert Iberia make it harder for the AI Ummyad's? In the long term that would give them more gold from the tax.

Because eventually the Catholic revolts would cripple them.

I've seen Hispania blob up frequently and early under Christians (and pagans, with the Ancient Religions mod) too. I think it could be geography? It's easier to blob when you occupy a peninsula, because you don't have to defend from as many sides. A bigger peninsula might equal a bigger blob?

I think that what Europe needs is an event in 987, giving the possibility to adopt primogeniture. In my experience gavelkind is the main culprit in the 769 start chaos.

The DLC bookmarks have nothing to do with it. When Sword of Islam came out, one of the most common complaints was that an Emir in Al Andalus would eventually start an invasion for Aquitaine and he would always win.

The Muslims get bored because they're too stable. They're too stable because Muslim traits causes every Muslim who has them to be loved by every other Muslim.

-Mujahid gives you +10 opinion with all Muslims and +30 with everyone who also has the trait (this stacks, so it's +40 with everyone who shares the trait)
-Hajjaj gives you +10 with all Muslims
-Hafiz gives you +5 with all Muslims
-Sayyid gives you +10 with all Muslims
-Mirza gives you +5 with all Muslims
-Ashari gives you +25 with everyone who also has the trait
-Mutazilite gives you +25 with everyone who also has the trait

THIS is why Muslim realms never fall apart. It gets even more ridiculous when the Caliph is being controlled by a human who can manipulate jihads so that every vassal and all of their kids get the Mujahis trait, creating a unified empire of love for at least a generation.

One thing that might weaken the Umayyads is to allow rulers of same religion to intervene in religious uprisings on the side of the rebels. I've seen two or three Catholic revolts in Umayyad lands and would happily have deployed to back them up.

Instead they just rebel, are hostile to EVERYBODY, get squashed really fast, and the entire country becomes even stronger because of the "Crushed revolt" debuff. Or something really irritating happens, like a revolt killing the badshah and ending the truce from the Umayyads' previous land-grab early.

It's interesting reading this. I've played 2 decent length 769 campaigns since Conclave. In both games, the Umayyads took out Asturias and most of Aquitaine and then exploded by 900. At which point in both cases the first crusade took back Aquitaine leaving a realm that controlled both France and Aquitaine and then steamrolled holy wars in the other direction against the fractured Musilms.

I've played about 20 games starting in CM and I've never seen the islamic blobs last very long. Usually by about 900 the whole islamic world is in border gore after a decedance revolt. Andalusia usually gets taken in a crusade and the Caliphate becomes one of about 20 sunni states.

But that would require more than the 5 mins these guys play before frothing into a rage over "slowness" and "blobs."

This is a double edged sword. It makes a player controlled Muslim easier since there's a higher chance they'll think positively of you, and yet it sucks if you're not playing a Muslim because you have to deal with Muslim mega blobs(aka my France game, I've never fought so many defensive wars in my life).

That might be a good way to implement this.

Hell, quite apart from stopping Muslim blobbing, it might make dealing with heresies more interesting if a heresiarch can join the fight on behalf of other uprisings.

Nah. No one can ever do anything that might possibly be considered "against" them, because then someone might give the idea that we have a completely different way of life and set of values, AND WE CAN'T HAVE THAT.

I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with your hateful speech. Because if I agree, I will get banned again. I'm gonna go take my blue pill now. Do you want one ?

Muslim AI is always on a time limit. If you play long you will see once all the holy orders are available to Catholics and also crusades... the Muslims cannot compete. Especially because the AI does not seem to recognize holy orders as existing when moving troops, causing suicide.

Do not nerf Muslims. They do not do well in long term already. And against Byzantines they are laughable. Catholics become most boring to play

The problem is entirely the start date. I don't know why Paradox thought it would be a good idea to push so far back. It is obvious they have no intention to balance their game regardless. It is all about adding things as DLC

Give it a decade or 2 they'll be back on top. Even if they do pop like that look at the rest of Europe it's mostly a mess except for Italy so no one is really in a position to get the land back from them anyway.

Nah. I see them disintegrate permanently often enough.

My personal favorite is the Knights of Caltrava blob that sometimes forms in Hispania. That's always fun,
