After many discussions about the French during WWII, I notice that HOI2 does not reflect accurately the french administrative problems in the colonies (Algeria, Syria, Indochina...).

When you play France, one of your first move is usually to bring back to continental France all units stationned in colonies.

But, in real life, a lot of french troops stayed in Djibouti, Indochina, Algeria, Syria through the war. Why ? Because it was sure that if the French troops left those places, the local population would have revolted immediately. In many cases, it happened just after the war (Algeria in 1945, Syria, Vietnam war of liberation, Madagascar uprisings, etc.)

I think we could represent this in HOI2 by inserting a "partisan" activity in those colonies at the beginning of the game (i.e. 1936). This would oblige the French player to leave some garrisons, to have convoys running to supply them, and could give Vichy more defensive power.

Could anyone give me an idea on how to model this ?

Or can I hope to see this historical problem inserted in an HOI2 improvement ?

And would the AI be able to manage those "partisans" ?

Post-scriptum : The same logic could apply to some British colonies : India, Egypt, Jordan... But at lower lovels of dissents. The French were really heavy-handed in their colonies (thus hated).

High partisan aktivity would force the colonial powers to keep their colonies garisoned - democracy or not.

That's exactly the point. Democracy was a foreign word in colonies...

This has been implemented to some (but needs to be turned up) extent since when I 'invaded' India Inoticed that England had a lot higher partisan levels than I did. The only thing which annoyed me is that I could liberate Pakistan but not India or Bangladesh (I know it was only'created' in 1971 but still).

I agree to an extent, but I'm fairly certain that most of the time garrison's in French and British colonies were not division sized. I believe that local garrison forces are represented by a hit to manpower rather than division sized garrisons in the huge western colonies.
