Playing in India now and I could legally imprison half my court and several vassals for adultery. I could even revoke the titles of said vassals without it being considered tyranny. It has gotten to the point were I get constantly spammed about affairs in my realm, a realm where adultery is 100% illegal.
How can you imprison and revoke titles tyranny-free when adultery is legal??? I can only do that to the women in my realm, but not the men who are merely Shunned.

This has happened while I've been playing as the 'adulterer', I had no control over it.

Playing as Matilda de Canossa, soulmates with her husband. Went to a party of a vassal and 'woke up' not remembering the night in the party hosts bed, rather 'dubious' and as a Duchess, there was no option whatsoever to say "Woah, I didn't agree to this!" and claim she was raped because damn, that's what it was to me, RPing Matilda .

Anyway, bastard came as the secret was outed and the HRE decided to revoke her title due to HER criminality, following a 3-year war that I was about to win, she died of cancer.

This definitely requires a fourth option in the 'wake up in someone else's bed after the party' or even before that because... wow. :(

Notion that adultery didn't exist in middle ages sounds like wishful thinking. That said, I do agree that the game is heavily oversexualized atm, cheating events pop up too frequently. The amount of incest seems like a joke.

Hello to everything, I just noticed how much adultery is present, I passed in debug it is there that I saw illegitimate children almost everywhere and in all the religions; so even declared like a crime.it makes very strange situation or on my 8 children a woman who loves me I have 5 who are not of me whereas it no trait of depravity ! !!!

I would like to remind the developer of paradox that even if adultery existed in the 11th century there was only a small part of the population even more for female adultery !
I'm fine with adultery events if you don't have the seduction focus on either character. But what I hate is how prevalent Incest events are, especially mother son, it's clearly got a high chance so that you'd get ebin posts on reddit and all the upboats xddd

... And second, adultery is too trivial to revoke titles over especially if the liege lord had zero connection to either adulterous party which was the case for my countess. (it was with one of Countess Gytha of Devon's sons who engaged in adultery with my countess)

I agree, *IF* there is no connection to the liege.

However, sometimes adultery is a big deal, politically speaking. I elevated a low-born knight to a Duke on the stipulation of matrilineal marriage to my ruler's daughter. Then the guy just kept having one affair after another. I kept imprisoning his lovers, but he just kept at it, never got my ruler's daughter pregnant, and instead sired a string of bastards of his own house, which he legitimized.

Fortunately, I had taken the medicine tree with the King, so when I got the 1 year to live warning, I waited 11 months, and then imprisoned and executed him and all of his bastard children.

Turns out that King took the marriage contract with his daughter very, very seriously.

In 1066 start after 200 years im yet to have a wife that did not became an adulterer at some point. Its not that bad since i can easily control how many heirs pop up by sending her to jail and get a stats wife arround 50

This (and this whole post) is so surprising to me, as 98% of my Wessex play-through so far has been with Alfred as king, and Ealswith has never strayed. I checked debug after reading a bunch of this post, and all of Alfred's children are legitimate.

Maybe I just got lucky? or maybe Ealswith has some kind of modifier as a specific historical figure? She and Alfred are soulmates, so maybe the soulmate modifier does help, even if it's not 100%.

I just haven't experienced a single seduction or adultery event directly related to my ruler in the 54 years of Alfred's rule.

I guess I have these events to ... "look forward to" ? with the rest of my play-through.

so maybe the soulmate modifier
In terms of cheating probably!
Unfortunately bastardry scheme ignores this. So if anyone tried, they could make the children not Alfreds retroactively.
Your wife could be an Asexual Chaste Soulmate and it wouldn't matter.

Which is a bit of an issue. And no doubt contributes to more adultery all around.

Playing as Mathilda of Canossa, I had three people try and romance/seduce me in my lifetime. One was another vassal, ok fine. One was a random guest, ok, a bit more dubious. The last was MY SON. I said "no way in hell."

Yeah, that event sounds *really* irritating. But, in a world without DNA tests, if someone succeeds at "inception" on the King, then there's no heir, legitimate or illegitimate, where thinking does not make it so.

Talking about abortion? Because after the party you have been impregnated.

I agree, *IF* there is no connection to the liege.
I disagree. Adultery was a huge deal in some religions so in those religions it should be seerely punished. Whether revocation of titles (which I don't know whether happened IRL) should be done I don't know, but if not then we're possibly talking execution since that DID happen IRL when caught as an adulterer.

The church took marriage serious. Very serious. You were allowed to have sex to procreate and nothing else and marriage was a means to procreate. Having sex for fun, outside of marriage, with yourself, etc. all was seen seen sinful as it went against the stated goal of creating more of God's children.
Btw, women actually were treated less harshly on some of these things as it was belæieved that the man was the creator of life, the woman just being the carrier. Though I can't remember if adultery was one of the things where women got off easier than men.

For sure. I wasn't very clear about what I was "agreeing" with. I wasn't trying to say that it's not a big deal historically, or ideologically then (and now in many places/cultures).

I just meant in terms of game mechanics, as a player of CK3, I (the human player) don't care about adultery unless it's directly affecting my ruler's heirs, his land holdings & succession rights.

L'idée que l'adultère n'existait pas au moyen âge ressemble à un vœu pieux. Cela dit, je conviens que le jeu est fortement surexualisé, les événements de triche apparaissent trop fréquemment. La quantité d'inceste semble être une blague.

I just meant in terms of game mechanics, as a player of CK3, I (the human player) don't care about adultery unless it's directly affecting my ruler's heirs, his land holdings & succession rights.
Ah. True. Unless one roleplays a pious ruler, I guess.
Still, the option should be there at least in religions like catholicism since without it it'd be lack of immersion as it was a big deal IRL. That you then decide not to act on it if it's two randos is something else, but doesn't change that it is warranted to be there.
Like how murder is somethign you can act on too, but might not want to/decide not to. (And yes, in some cases murder and adultery actually would have been comparable back then, the latter perhaps even having been bigger depending on who was murdered. In fact then IIRC to this very day it's still a very grave offense in Britain to mess with the mess with the line of succession of the king and his heir (albeit said law hasn't been used since God knows when).
Cuckooing a ruler definitely would have been a very, very serious offense.

Talking about abortion? Because after the party you have been impregnated.

There is an option for abortion after the fact also. A pious ruler wouldn't go for that (or do what happened willingly especially with the 'soulmate' relation with her actual husband) which is the point of it, and Matilda is pious.

I'm thinking more along the lines of 'this person needs to be imprisoned for what he did!' Malus to all their family and a diplomacy challenge. Rightful imprisonment on the other party. Increase chance if higher in rank, lower chance if not.

But... I don't think they'll go into that sensitive subject.

The church took marriage serious. Very serious. You were allowed to have sex to procreate and nothing else and marriage was a means to procreate
Church opinions on the subject were a complex matter all the way back to St Augustine.

(And it's worth noting that the mediaeval Roman Catholic Church more or less openly tolerated prostitution.)

Define "common practice". Because I can assure you it wasn't and isn't.
I don't know about wasn't, but it appears to currently be https://www.statista.com/chart/3238/the-worlds-most-adulterous-countries/

Anyway, the game is also kind of weird when you go the other direction. Polyamory + polygamy + carnal exultation and I get very frequent popups about someone having an affair, with some opinion malus going around. I get a button to the effect of "who cares" but apparently it still affects the people involved, despite the religion explicitly allowing adultery. Not to mention the popups aren't particularly useful in this case, considering it's set to "accepted" so doesn't generate hooks or allow imprisonment.
