So after the end of my last one as Manchukuo, which was very uneventuful, this one should have a far more activity with countries all over the place and without scripted events and everyone all vying for power.

So how's it all set up?

This is the resulting map.

Axis - Communist China
Allies - Macedonia
Comintern - Finland.

So what country am I playing as? Well thats up to you guys. There are 168 to choose from and as long as the one that gets chosen isn't the worst one known to man or I can't find it. The next highest requested will be played.

Either the pinkish one in Africa or the one that looks like Scotland.

the tan one in Italy.

Either the pinkish one in Africa or the one that looks like Scotland.

That would be Asturias. And do you mean the one where scotland is in real life or the blueish one above Asturias?

Try the one that looks like France and take over Europe... and beyond!

The country that covers most of Scotland, Wales and Northern England. To be honest, whichever country you choose I'll be following your AAR. :L

Any in America, and conquer the rest of the US

Go for that beige one covering Denmark and some of Northern Germany!

the tan one in Italy.

Tempting!

Thats Korea. I loaded up as them to make the map. They seem like a decent country, perhaps lacking a little in the leadership department... I may pick them.

At anyrate, someone pick the same country so something can happen!

You know... A game that starts in N. America might be interesting, primarily for the reasons given by Shadow Reaper.

I predict a drawn out game of conquest there in the early game, but then you'll have to shift gears from army/air focus to naval focus in order to continue beyond the confines of N. America.

I'll change my vote from France (which would still be interesting) to that country along the northern Pacific coast of N. America. Should have good range to some good resources in the Rocky Mountains, unless the resources are randomized too. It also allows you to (mostly) have your back to the sea. I don't see anybody nearby who would be a "natural" naval power, except for maybe the British Columbia/Alaska guy, who (unless factories are randomized) won't have much IC.

Rensslaer

Why didn't you pick equal size? :(
I like the one that has Hokkaido Sakhalin and The Kurils. What is it?

Or let's just have epic battles in North America by picking the one that has Greenland.

Right so I get the feeling that most people want to so something in America. I'll look around there and see which one won't leave me getting killed on January 1st 1938.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I've looked around the various countries in North America and I have chosen...

BULGARIA

1

It was a suprisingly sunny new years day. Standing by an open window in Government House's cabinet room, breathing in deeply the crisp cold air, Esteban Marcellus was preparing to lead the newly elected government of Bulgaria. For a decade he had lead the opposition and now here he was at last.

The silence was broken with the entry of Noirtier (those of you who have read Napoleonic Dreams last year may remember him), the head of the civil service was an immigrant of unknown origins but had distinguished himself on the first day. He was outwardly faithful to whomever was the leader but, like any other civil servant, tried his best to prevent the government from doing what it wanted unless it was in the civil services interest. He glided across the marble floor with an impressive light step that created only the slightest echo. Marcellus turned and noticed the papers in Noirtiers hand.
"Ah Monsieur Noirtier, I see my first signature is required." Marcellus said cheerfully, glancing down at the papers.
"Oui Prime Minister, but more than just one. It requires your signature in three places." Noirtier in a pleasant tone. He placed it on the large mahogany table that occupied the centre of the room, flipped to the page the first signature required. Marcellus leaned over, uncapping a pen he had retrieved from his pocket. His hand hovered over the page in hesitation, he turned his head to Noirtier.
"Should't I read this first?"
"Oh no not at all Prime Minister, these are only for general house keeping. Authorisation of pay, that sort of thing."
"Oh I see, well as long as I'm not signing away my position!" He laughed awkwardly however Noirtier's blank face quickly made Marcellus feel extremely embarassed. He signed on the necessary pages. Noirtier thanked him and left the room. Some moments later the first of the cabinet entered the room.

After a few minutes of handshaking and quiet conversations, Marcellus called for the meeting to begin. They took their seats with the Chief of Staff, Field Marsal John Gent to his right, and to his left, the Deputy Prime Minister Dominic McLain.
"Right," Marcellus put on his reading glasses and pulled out the meeting agenda from the folder that had been placed in front of him. "Let's see, item one on the agenda is... my.. position as Prime Minister?"
"Exactly that!" Called a voice from the far corner of the room. The curtains were swept aside dramatically as a man with bags under his eyes moved stiffly towards the Prime Minister. The man was imediately identified as the billionare, Booker Victor.
"Guards!" Marcellus shouted, "What are you doing here?!" How long have you been hiding there?!" The man stood next to Prime Minister, towering above of him. Marcellus' face was quickly becoming pale.
"All bloody night, and the guards aren't coming."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean you're not in charge."
"I'm the Prime Minister!"
"Not anymore!" Victor pulled from his suit jacket pulled out a dozen or more paged document and dropped it onto the table. Marcellus was now ghostly white and so wide-eyed it looks as if his eyes would just fall out. The document looked exactly same one as Noirtier had just brought in. At the top of the first page in bold capital letters, so impossible to miss, one word sat. RESIGNATION. He blinked and some colour returned to his face.
"Wait, how did Noirtier give you this?" During this distraction Noirtier emerged from the same curtains that Victor had emerged from.
"Magic." Noirtier grinned.
"Bu- Wha- How did you get there? You told me these were just to authorise pay!" Marcellus roared.
"In a sense yes," Noirtier replied calmly, "when I handed over the document to Monsieur Victor he authorised the transfer of a substantial amount of money to a bank account that I have in a tax haven.
"And now Marcellus, would you please get out of my chair."
"Your chair?!" Victor casually turned a page. Three words stood out in similar way as the previous page. TRANSFER OF POWER. "You're not even a member of our party! You can't run this country, your family is made up of idiots. Look at your name! How can you mix up your first and last names in the birth certificate of your new born son! Why are you doing this?"
"Under your leadership we have already lost 5% of our industry! Myself and my Deputy own all of the industry in Bulgaria. We couldn't you do any more damage. Now if you please..." Marcellus stood up, lurched over the table swinging his fists at McLain. "Well if you insist on being thrown out of a window now." Victor sighed. With lightening speed, Victor lifted Marcellus with one hand by his belt with his other hand grabbing the scruff of his neck. He marched over to the open window and was preparing to toss the former Prime Minister out.
"Wait! Wait! What are you doing?" he screamed.
"Noirtier!" Noirtier appeared at their side with the document, his finger pointed to the page of the third signature.

I give permission to be thrown out of the nearest window after being confronted by Booker Victor.

Victor took a moment to let the news sink in and then casually tossed Marcellus from the third floor window. Seconds later there was a loud crash. He casually leaned out and looked down. "Oh damn... I liked that car."

With the drama over and everyone completely under his control, he took his seat at the head of the table and picked up the agenda. "Now are we all here?"

2603dpu.jpg

"Right, item 2... ah, Field Marshal Gent. I believe your men have been doing another ordinance survey. How does our fine land look at this moment?" The marshal stood and walked over to a projector while Noirtier closed the curtains.

"Now as you know from the last war we lost territory here, here and here." He pointed with his riding crop. "In this area two countries have formed. The Italian Socialists, who were exiled from Italy, took over while we weren't looking. Next to them is Ethiopia. We're not sure where they came from but they certainly aren't friendly. Further in the East some Galacians took control cutting off another region. No one is quite sure how they got there with Costa Rica, Indonesia and Hungary in the way but they somehow managed it." The lights were turned on and the Marshal returned to his seat.
"Thank you, now how is the state of our land forces. How many do we have?"
"At this moment, a thousand men." He said proudly.
"A thousand? Marshal, isn't this thousand the same thousand that has been currently looking after the estate in Hanford that the headquarters is based at, which is conviniently your home?"
"Er, yes sir. We've been teaching them all sorts of digging techniques and how to work with different types of soil for the past two years. We will be moving onto basic carpentry soon."
"You mean they've finished digging your lake and are now going to clear an area of forest?"
"Oh no sir, that was just a by-product of their training."
"And who are these men lead by?"
"That would be Field Marshal Dee Big." Victor blinked at the Marshal.
"Are we employing a rapper known as DBig to be a Field Marhsal?"
"No, not Dbig sir but D-E-E Big. Excellent leader. Can break into any fortress as well as hold just a mound of dirt against overwhelming force."
"Does this also mean that we have three Field Marshalls, yourself followed by Marshal Draughn, head of the army and then Dee Big to command 1000 men?"
"That would be correct sir."
"Very well but we must expand our military!"
"I already have plans for such an expansion Prime Minister." It was Earl Delaughter the armament minister who spoke. "If you'll allow me." The lights were one again switched off and a new image shone on the wall.

"By early June we shall 15 infantry brigades each with its own special brigade. Two artillery, two armoured car and one anti-tank, bringing the total to 20. A vast improvement on our current state."
"What's that at the bottom?"
"That? That would be our tanks sir."
"Tanks? Those failed experimental steel wagons that broke down every half mile? Why would we want them?"
"Since the war we have made a vast improvement. Infact we may even be the world leader with our current technology level. We can even produce bigger tanks than the ones proposed!"
"All right, we'll see how they do. Now for the next item, our airforce... we have an airforce?" Victor asked turning to Marshal Gent.
"Yes sir, the Air Marshal is the one with his feet on the table at the end."

Victor looked down the table and noticed the man who was far to young to called an Air Marshal was leaning back in his chair, feet on the table and finding more interest in the dirt under his finger nails than the meeting.
"What's his name?"
"Barry Gwin."
"The bachelor heir to the entrepenaur, Arnold Gwin? How did he become the Air Marshal? Nevermind. Gwin! What is the strength of our airforce?" Gwin continued cleaning his nails. Victor tried several times to get his attention but he didn't reply. "Oh forget it, Gent answer the question for him."
"One."
"One what?"
"No, just one. The Air Marshal is the only man in all of Bulgaria who owns a plane. Thus he is our only pilot."
"...and is this plane any good?"
"Allow me to answer that!" Called Gwin who had quickly sat up. "It's a beautiful little red bi-plane that with the right conditions can go upto 142 mph!"
"And what sort of armament has it got?"
"Armament? What an utterly barbaric thought."
"Right... Well Admiral Strozier, how does our navy fair?"
"We have an Aircraft Carrier!" Admiral said proudly.
"An aircraft carrier! Surely we are the envy of the world?"
"I feel I should point out sir," interrupted Gent, "His aircraft carrier as he calls it is nothing more than a rowing boat that sits in the middle of my lake. He launches small remote control planes off of it over the weekend. He even claims it will change the face of naval warfare!" He chuckled.
"But it will! Now as soon as I finish my latest prototype and Air Marshal Gwin hands over his plane I'll-"
"I will do no such thing! My precious plane is not something to be used in your forlorn experiments!"
"Forlorn? How dare you!" The Admiral punched Gwin squarely in the jaw knocking him off his chair. And thats when the fighting broke out.

At this point the meeting had to be temporarily adjourned. The Admiral and Air Marshal did not return.

"Shall we move onto our intelligence chief?" Bennett Brasfield stood and using the same slide as Marshal Gent.
"We have been focusing on our land intelligence and I'm pleased to announce the results of it."
"Excellent, at last some good news."
"Well sir, after a year of investigation we have discovered, that there is a lot of it."
"A lot of what?"
"Land."
"Sit down." Victor sighed as he placed his hand on his face. "Let's just end it here." The meeting finally ended.

After a month in office, the population had been rioting in some cities after the assination attempt on an opposition leader. On the same day a parliamentry scandal broke loose. The people were not happy.

After several months the party had gained enough popularity to extend its already two year draft into a three year draft.

In October the leader of Galacia, Michael Shifflett proposed an excellent idea.

1zluqag.jpg

Considering the size of the country this would be an excellent oppurtunity.

2im8baa.jpg

A year on from the let down cabinet meeting the military leaders met for an update.

34znk75.jpg

"Well now," said Victor, "This is far better than last year! Look! Even the navy has ships!"
"They're not aircraft carriers." Sulked Strozier.
"Will you stop going on about your bloody aircraft carriers!" Shouted Gwin, who had since crashed his plane trying to impress a few peasant girls in a field and awaiting a replacement modern plane that he would take out of one of the squadrons that were being built.
"This is not a problem we should be concerned about. Galacia is distinctly lacking compared to us!" Victor said.

Nine months on, Victor and McLain agreed to invest some money.

e16bnn.jpg

Yes that's right. I've gotten an entire YEAR of that bonus!

At two in the morning Victor was called to an emergancy meeting with the Foriegn minister, Harold Jenney. Who had uptill this point had been only bringing endless news of trade deals offering metal and rare materials but rarely doing anything to fix the major energy crisis. He was not in the best of favours. He handed victor this note.

2rzrlox.jpg

"Who are the axis?" Victor asked "And where's Georgia?"
"Well sir it's like this. There are three alliances, the Axis, lead by Communist China. The Allies lead by Macedonia and the Comintern lead by Finalnd. Up until now they haven't lead anyone yet. This is the first time that anyone has joined one!"
"I see... and where's Georgia?"
"Well... we have men scouring the maps trying to find it but so far we can't see it. But we have discovered that Malta own 70% of the worlds islands!"
"So you got me out of bed at 2am for the news that a country, which may not even exist, has joined an alliance that is against the other two which was only an alliance of one."
"Er... yes." Victor left.

The Great Alliances begin to fill up.

j8h7d4.jpg

This time it was possible to find these nations.

2hg8cx0.jpg

After many months Georgia was at last found!

vr6nmd.jpg

Another little country that was difficult to find.

qy5ses.jpg

This not so hard to find. Apparantly they had run out of every other colour.

wakpip.jpg

At the end of 1938 another military meeting took place.

1zoi938.jpg

"Well this is better again!" Victor announced, "Keep up the good work" He said to the Armament Minister.
"My ships can't even defend themselves!" The Admiral had continued this sulk from the start of his career.
"But look! Soon you'll have some real ships!"

s3hob8.jpg

"They're still not aircraft carriers."
