Some of the provinces in Egypt are smaller than HRE provinces.
in reality distance from Alexandria to Cairo is almost the same like from Berlin to Hamburg and from Alexandria to Aswan is the same like from Paris to Berlin - it's just how the maps are made.

Egypt is bigger than modern Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Czechia, Austria, Switzerland and Italy combined so I guess it's bigger than HRE was. Parts of France were in the HRE but south Italy wasn't

Getting rid of a good chunk of provinces (and some tags) in NA wouldn't change anything for most players and if that really improves performance I would say go for it as soon as possible.

Adding AL these tags and tribal land has made it much easier in my experience to colonize NA since you can take all that lands via war's instead if having to wait for colonization.

It does actually add something - it slows down the ability to completely infill North America with colonies before 1650. Most of inland North America wasn't really colonized during EU4, so much as subjected to nebulous "dibs" that were then traded around.

A North America with fewer provinces is also one that's filled in quicker.
Largely agree with this sentiment: Provinces could be reduced slightly, but more pressing are tags. Many should be reevaluated if they need to exist to represent history and some should be removed in the pursuit of increasing performance. They can be revisited and reinstated in EU5, but the game shouldnt run like a dumpster until that point.

Some of the provinces in Egypt are smaller than HRE provinces.
The population density, economic ability, etc., of lower Egypt was much more than that of the HRE, comparatively, province to province. Cairo was one of the largest cities of the time. This isn't about size though, it's about the number of provinces. Sure, they can be re-shaped, but also some provinces in Egypt are much LARGER than any province in Europe save for in Scandinavia.
