Unplayable?

I purchased and downloaded Crusader Kings II and the Rome expansion for Mac, and I've had 3 lock ups. I've yet to make it out of the first year without a lock up. No crash, no bug report, only way out is to hard shut down the computer. The first two times it locked up while arranging marriages, the third time, which irritated me the most because I had done so much before the freeze, it was when I was granting someone a bishopic.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I'm pretty irked.

We've certainly had some problems with the Mac version, but nothing as severe as that - I've played it for hours with no problem at all.

Steam or GG version? What version and checksum show on the main game menu? What exact Mac and OS X version please?

Turn off anti-aliasing and filtering in your settings.txt file, also try turning off trees as well.

Try playing in a window also, helped me somewhat...

I don't think it has anything to do with the graphics. It always locks when I'm digging in the menus. The music keeps playing, the mouse moves freely, but the screen is locked down. and I can't Command + Option + Esc out either. I have to hard shut down and start back up again. It's very disappointing. I wonder if I could get a refund until they get it fixed. =/

Refunds have to come from the place you bought the game.

You may as well try what LarryLeica suggested, what have you got to lose?

Also, is there any chance you'd consider an upgrade to OS X 10.8? The Intel video drivers Apple provide in that are much better for the MacBooks than their previous OSs.

I paid through Paradox which gave me a code to put into Steam.

Just tried playing again, got to 71 before I got a pop up that my wife was preggo and it froze again.

Where do I find that .txt file? I'm pretty sure it's an issue with notifications/interface rather than graphics (I keep either the Kingdoms or Duchies map on, I never see the trees) but I'll give it a last ditch spin before I start shaking them down for a refund.

The changes didn't help, unfortunately. Still froze, still locked up the whole screen (even though it was in windowed mode). This time it was when I got a pop up saying my chancellor was lazy. I give up.

Despite what someone told you in this thread, the mac version has been plagued by many many bugs since release. The one you are hitting is a well-known but ignored-by-devs bug that affects macs with Intel HD 3000 graphics. It has been around since forever. You can find a long thread about it here.
Upgrading to 10.8, playing in a window, disabling DLCs etc. do nothing to prevent the freeze. If you can, get a refund ASAP!

I put in for a return. Which is really disappointing, because the little I've been able to play was really fun. It's like playing Game of Thrones. But until they get their sh** together, I'm going to play something else. I'll be popping into the forums every once and awhile to see if it's been resolved.

I pre ordered Heart of Darkness for Victoria 2 on the Pdox webstore, and after two weeks of not being able to play it since release I asked for a refund, which was promptly denied.
Needless to say I was not pleased.

HD3000 issue is present on PC version too, so it's not mac specific. I've got a dual GPU macbook, so the GT6?? gets used, and same for the macpro tower. I still had issues pre-1.092 but I found playing in window-mode reduced the problems quite a bit, but would still get random freezes after about 2 hours. Since 1.092 the game is unplayable on any platform if you have the republic DLC active due to the patrician bug.

No. The "freeze-your-whole-OS-bug" it's not present on Windows or Linux version and it's very OS X specific...not sure what you mean by "PC version" tho.
