Installation Problem

Firstly I apologize if this is not the appropriate venue to post tech related issues. Secondly, I apologize for my lack of basic computing knowledge. Here is my problem.

In the installation, progress halts at 51% and I get the following message:

"CRC error: The file C:\Program Files (x86)\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\map\map.rar doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup maybe corrupted; contact your software vendor."

Note that this is a brand new disc that I immediately took out of the case and placed into the disk drive. It have not removed it from the drive. I am wondering if there is a way to resolve this problem without driving back to Wal-Mart in order to swap it out for a new copy. Furthermore, I don't even know if that would solve the relevant issue. It might also be relevant to state that a window's update caused my computer to crash during the middle of the game's installation, and I had to restart. I am not sure that is an issue though. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you noticed that if you merge fleets carrying troops (using "reorganize" button), the troops will simply disappear?
Is this a known issue?

Haven't tried that yet, I do my reorganization in port beforehand. Will attempt to reproduce and report. Once you register your copy there's an entire subforum for Bug Reports.

No idea, I got mine off GG. There's a tech support forum for registered users, I scanned the first 7 or so pages. There's a few similar problems, but nothing directly applicable. You could try getting Revo Uninstaller and using that to get rid of any remnants that might be preventing a reinstall, then trying it again.

HOI3 Bug fix 1.2

Image my surprise when I started downloading a 43.5 or so MEG bug fix (patch) for the game. I know the game has bugs, but that is huge. Anyway, the patch installed, and the game lag seems to be just a bit better.

I however have found some game features that quite working.

1 - When I first started the game after patching as US, Germany invaded the US mainland in 1938 - Nice feature here

2 - Automatic deployment of new units no longer works.

3 - Manpower stopped growing.

4 - Production sliders still move at will even when locked more than before.

5 - San Francisco is locked. Not allowed access to it at all. I can see it is owned by US.....oh well, that city is not important anyway.

Ideas?

Got a quick question, might have been asked before, but going through 13 pages of this thread alone is something I don't think many can do.

Anyway here it is:

Q: In HOI2 you could always tell how advanced your divisions were just by a quick glance at them. For example, you saw an infantry division was "Infantry '43" so that means it's definitely an advanced unit that has been upgraded to your latest tech.

Now in HOI3, how do you do that? Aren't Infantry Divisions now just infantry divisions? Meaning, without any specific model to them? So how do I know how advanced my division is, or whether or not it has been upgraded?

Click a division and take a look at its brigades. You'll see a Roman Numeral at the bottom left of each brigade's line, that's the closest model number. I is default (no upgraded equipment, often pre-WWI weaponry), II is first-generation (usually 1918 or WWI) equipment, III is second-generation (usually 1936, but different for different types). For example, Infantry IV or Antitank IV has Model 1938 equipment on average, but Model 1938 Artillery is VI and Model 1938 Militia/Garrison is V. Tanks, Planes and Ships are less standardized, their model numbers are moddable.

You can also click the brigade's info bar to see the exact equipment it's using, and the % towards completion of the next upgrade if one is available.

Probably broken your no cd patch you dirty pirate.
You need to post in the tech help section with yous serial registered.

Yeesh! That was a little harsh and uncalled for, considering he/she joined the forum today, and probably didn't read all the rules yet!

Heck, when I joined, even though I registered right away before reading why I should register, some people might not do it the same as me! Doesn't give me the right to insult them! And if I saw a message like this on my first visit, I wouldn't want to be in this forums.

PS: If you were trying to make a joke, it didn't read like one. ;) You made a valid point about the tech support, but the first sentence can be misinterpreted.

A major problem I faced when playing SU '36 was the management of its HUGE army. After spending HOURS organizing it into neat corps, armies and army groups then attaching those to the right theater, I realized I don't know whether or not I can control an entire ARMY as a unit!

So the question is:

Can you, for example, order an entire army to move to an area using that army's HQ? Or do you have to move every last division that belongs to that army yourself? If it's the latter, then I don't see why it's so useful having such a complicated command structure!

Thanks in advance guys!

how to

How can I increase the supplies sent in a supply convoy - in HOI 2 I could do so and deliberately build a stockpile - HO3 I seem incapable of determining amounts of suppliles sent and numbers of transports used

new to forums

Hi - am new to forums, no idea how to find the right ones - navigation here is not well explained, this is the only forum I have found for HOI3 so here goes with some gameplay suggestions - perhaps someone knows a mod that can do this stuff

I think these changes would make gameplay easier

1 - have the Corps, HQ etc name appear when hovering over the unit with the mouse - now it shows the leader name - haveing the corps name would allow for quick managment to those of us who rename for org purposes

2 need to be able to reorganize and attache divisions etc in a simple manner - perhaps a page/chart where we can click units to add to an HQ etc rather that the current tedious process

3 when selecting a division, the other members of the Corps should be highlighted

4 On tech charts - should show the completion date on the chart over the title of the project and have a cancel button in the same place - it is difficult to prioritize and change projects

5 when Theatre HQ's request builds, there need to be some way of partially agreeing - the only way I know is to agree then delete unwanted from the production list

6 Q is there any benefit in attaching fleets to an HQ?

7 Need a Corps, Army etc move order - asking a Corp HQ to defend and sending it to a province does not ensure all attached units get there

Merging Units?!

Is there a way to merge units into one stack? An earlier post in the thread mentioned that they shouldn't be under AI control, but even when I've detached them completely from the command structure, the merge option is grayed out :( (screen shot below).

Any ideas?

AFAIK you can't merge divisions, you can only have them exchange brigades.
