Okay, so, turns out I had corrected this properly as I first posted, but there was a bug that was fixed with 2.2.0.3. So, as far as I know, this works as intended now. In short, I don't like that Early Eastern Clothing forces you to use the Mediterranean Portraits whether or not you have it enabled. So I "fixed" it.

WHAT THIS DOES: Restores the default western portraits to the Byzantine, Iberian, and Latin culture groups. The Byzantines should still use the Early Eastern hats and clothing. This does not affect Ironman.

REQUIREMENTS: Ownership of dlc047 (Early Eastern Clothing DLC).

INSTALL: Put the modified portraits_mediterranean_early.gfx in \Crusader Kings II\DLC\dlc047.zip\interface and replacing the existing one.

UNINSTALL: Delete the dlc047 folder, and verify files with Steam. The DLC with unmodified content will be redownloaded.

NOTES:
23-10-2014 v1 - Release.
10-11-2014 v2 - Fixed problem where characters would not use the middle or old age portraits after a change to the DLC.

I didn't get a chance to see what you had posted up before, but if you want to remove the Med Faces from being with the Early Med clothing, you need to replace all references to the facial pieces inside the .gfx with their Western equivalents. Assuming you just copy paste from the default .gfx, you'll also want to wipe out the contents of the offset folder since the western stuff contains the offsets inside the .gfx itself instead of through a separate file.

That's what I did. I thought I had done something very wrong, but it turns out that the fix, in 2.2.0.2, had another bug that was affecting it. With 2.2.0.3, things work properly.

It's just meant to be a quick fix until Paradox decides to do it themselves.

Works great, thanks for the little mod! Quick question, but is it possible to make these clothes the default for the Byzantines the entire game length? Given the poor alignment of Mediterranean clothing pack with stock European portraits it'd be nice to have the "old" portraits last longer than a few hundred years.

Make a copy of portraits_mediterranean.gfx from inside your DLC folder, and put it into the mod above. Then, open both the default portraits_mediterreanean.gfx and Cetan's early version, and copy the early version into the default one, and then save and use it. That replaces the "default" contents with his fixes.

Didn't have any such luck with this; the portraits simply remained vanilla western European. As this mod merely changes the DLC files I was unsure if I followed your instructions correctly. What I did was copy the modified portraits_mediterranean_early.gfx and paste it into the early portraits DLC .zip with the name "portraits_mediterranean." This didn't seem to work, so I tried the same thing but in the DLC folder for the late Mediterranean portraits instead. While the faces reverted to the western european counterparts the clothes did not.

I feel we're missing out on some important steps somewhere, then, between you and I. Either that, or I just have a poor way of describing it. I may literally just make the file and host it myself. Apologies if I forget (super busy with 100+ hour work weeks and kid), but I will try and get back to you.
