Why is EU4 being slowed by Ireland? Why does this inconsequential island have the second highest province and highest tag density in the game?

What does another Irish OPM add to the game? It did not effect the world, it did not effect Europe, it barely inconvenienced Britain during the period. It did not go through centuries of civil war like Japan, it does not have the highest population density like India or China or even France and the Rhine.

EU4 has the best performance with patch 1.24 since release. Don't waste your optimisations on useless things.

Sincerely, a player that is finally happy to finish a game.

While I don't mind their continued updating of Ireland (I remember when it was but 5 lonely provinces over there, good times) and I am sure there are many Irish/Ireland people and fans who love it, I can see where you are coming from. They already received one update which quite extensively updated its political and geographical landscape - without it having changed much in how the game progresses. (I'm taking the what does it do for the game approach moreso than whether it's deserved from a historical standpoint because I really can't answer that and then we're in a whole host of X region deserved Y more than Z region because of reasons).

I doubt that a few more tags and provinces will change how the England player plays (A few more quick landgrab wars I presume). Likely they will still only ally/interact with each other and scotland, so the increased number should have no bearing on what France/Brittany/others do with it. I suppose it does make a difference though if you're looking to play Scotland or an Irish minor, as there would be more land (possibly more development too) to consolidate before you have to fight the English, which may make it easier/more enjoyable. So is the change desperately needed? Probably not.

Does it inconvenience us that much though? No. It's a few provinces. The tags will most likely be gone and shouldn't make a mark on performance which is mainly an issue in the late game if at all. There's also the case to be made that becuase the region contains quite little already, adding jsut a few provinces and tags is relatively speaking a major change, while adding 3-4 provinces and OPM tags in China would barely be noticed at all.

It makes sense that if they were going to change England and Northern France that they also chose to further polish the Irish/Scottish region.

I disagree that adding new provinces is a bad thing, but Ireland having more soldiers than France in 1444 is a bit ridiculous.

I wouldn’t mind it too much if there weren’t other places that needed more developer time.

For example: Iberia. Its provinces are massive and it’s odd seeing Ireland having a higher province density than the continental peninsula that has this age’s Superpower on it.

Well, i agree that Ireland atm doesn't need that much attention while SEA has a lot of HUGE provinces. Thou i won't mind more of those juicy little irish duchies - they are much better than England (should create a petition on removing it fomr the game, but, egh, it existed historically so no chance to do things right way).

As much as I love playing Ireland (played it the most in EU3 I think), I agree. It is confusing why would they want many provinces there, while the island is barely relevant for anyone. At most it is a stepping stone towards Great Britain.

That’s all it is. It’s just a buff to England while simultaneously making it a bit easier to play as Ireland or Scotland.

Now, after the Middle-East, it's Western Europe's turn. We have seen map-updates in almost every patch lately, which is great. Other places will get their love too. All in time.

About other places in the world: please join topics in the suggestions subforum or make new ones. Those can be of help for the developers; a source for inspiration.

For example: While Iberia, India and HRE (especially the German parts) updates are wanted by the community, I haven't seen that much threads about them on the suggestion forums: Savoy, the Alps and the Balkans have received greater attention the last few weeks than those areas.

I would like a more detailed Iberia as well, but:

1) I am not Spanish;
2) All I know about Spain is that they eat paella and have siesta all day long.

I simply can't propose anything of value. However, I do have a 10$.

In the end, it isn't a job of a customer to make well-made proposals - but number of "do want" high enough could compel the developers to do more research on the region and make it more detailed.

Especially when such well-made proposals meet little feedback: like that guy @Mortheim who wrote a lot of useful things about Russian region. Yet, all we got is the goofy Third Rome.

Obviously, the devs have their own plans and vision on how to implement things. So just saying "we want region X to be better" isn't that bad.

Oh and about Balkans, Balkans is a nut case. I mean, it is a running gag at this point. The high number of proposal about it is caused by quite specific things.

Agree with XYN - our job as customers is to let the devs know where we are interested in spending our money. Their job is to produce the content. That said, of course players who can make detailed suggestions for how to overhaul a region should be encouraged to do so, but measuring interest in having an area overhauled by weight of suggestions rather than weight of requests is a poor approach.

As to performance - it is CK2 whose latest patch is the best performed since release. EU4 is nowhere near that mark. At some point soon I think the devs will need to make performance a focus, especially if they want to keep adding more tags and provinces (which I hope they do, I love the more detailed maps).

This pretty much sums it up. I know what Spain was capable of militarily, colonially, and diplomatically, and I know that right now it isn’t capable of coming anywhere near those goals. I know that adding more detail to Iberia what both improve gameplay there and strengthen Spain. I can always draw random lines to split up the provinces, But I don’t know enough about Iberian geography to make proper suggestions.

26 downvotes and 2 upvotes yet the response in the posts so far has been surprisingly cordial, contrasting OP's rather curt and confrontational posture. Quite the peculiar thread.

I do agree with OP, save for the part about technical performance. I would rather the time was spent elsewhere. But it's already done (Lord help us if this turns out to be an Ireland immersion patch...) and we can only convey our response and provide the developers with sincere and thorough suggestions about where else in the world should be worked on next time.

This would have been an issue if Paradox weren't willing to look at Iberia, but they are. Just not now; at this moment. Patience, it will come, eventually. This has always been the case with map-updates: one part or group of regions at the time.
