This sounds like the units will change over time...

I don't have much knowledge about the type of armies they had in the CK-time. I assume that they will evolve over time, like the tech-development in EU2.
What is unclear to me is whether these units are different in different provinces. When they talk about English longbowmen and Mongolian cavalry, they give the impression that the units in England are different from those in other parts of the CK-world. I wonder if those units are not only different in time, but also different in place.

The units probably will evolve just as they do in EU when you reach a new tech level. And most likely not all areas will have all types of units. Or maybe they can develop them over time.:)

There should be plenty more units than in EU, because Infantry and Cavalry simply would not suffice. Especially that this game isn't worldwide and focused on a certain area and has much more depth, to isolate it to the generalities of 'Infantry' and 'Cavalry' would do a huge disservice to the historical accuracy of the game.

There should be differences, such as Longbowmen and Crossbowmen, and so on and so forth.

There is more units. If you read the preview:

There are far more troop types available as well – heavy cavalry, light horse, archers, heavy infantry, pikemen, and siege trains will populate your armies.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought i read somewhere about different each province created a different military unit. So if you didnt have a province that had archers say, you couldnt have any in your army (unless of course you hired mercenaries). Did i read that about crusader kings or am i just imagining that? I think i might like that.

Another thing, how many different units do you think there will be? Is it going to be specific to culture (does mongolian light cavalry & english archers mean there will be unique attributes to every culture's cavalry, infantry, etc.) or just generic cavalry, infantry with different names. Just curious.

Personally will i would love this level of detail i would rather see the effort go into character development. Well maybe not character development so much as the political/social strategic side of the game.

That's what I read, too, and it was CK. My understanding is that each province will raise it's own army type that will include one unit type or possibly a mix of different units. If that is, in fact, how it will be, then there almost has to be different units for the different cultures, although I can see some cultures (France and Eng, for example) having some units that are the same.

It has been mentioned here in discussions, but I can't remember seing anything official about it...

Hey cool. Guess the genoese will produce big amounts of crossbowers then. It´s a nice idea but it would be even cooler if you got to influence in which direction a province could produce. Long term planning could produce supreme archers with longbows for example.:)

So it looks like if your county has a lot of support from the lower class you will raise a lot of infantry or if you have a lot of nolbe support you could end up with more cavalry than other types. So probably in Mongol states they will raise all cavalry armies (or mostly) and other places there will be a mixture of types. Not real sure, but that is what it looks like to me.

I know that but it was only an example. Btw they should be able to hire out quite a few galleys as well.
