Started my first game of HTTT today as austria(quite a easy choice for HRE, but still), and after playing for 53 years being the emperor i managed to unite the empire after only actually conquering 4 provinces(2 from bavaria and the gold provinces of aquileia.

I played on the standard settings(normal diff historical luckies etc) which some might consider too easy, and in the case of austria that is probably not far from the truth.
However how likely is it that the whole empire, including the big states would let themselves be vassalised and massdiploanexed by some country who have hold the emperor title for 50 years?

I think perhaps the amount of imperial authority gained from defending HRE members and for forcing release of HRE vassals should be decreased, or even better, that one should need 100% authority for each reform, and loose 60% when doing so(from 50%/30% atm).

Anyways, just my thoughts on the new empire(which btw was great fun to play and ill prolly reload pre-anexation and continue). Anyone else who've tried the HRE out agree with me?

Piccie of a united empire just after the last reform(france was split up into minor states who joined the empire before uniting it)

Edit: Oh and i was hoping for a new colour but got the same ole ugly united german one :(

I want black HRE. :D

That would indeed be nice :p

Anyway thing is, most countries were very happy to join the HRE when i befriended them, so most likely i could have gotten the big eastern countries(lithuania, muscovy and hungary) into the empire and getting them too.

Basicly, when you are at the last 2 reforms, just gather 80 authority and go invite the whole christian world to the empire, and then eat em up and get instant cores

Rather silly actually, and since i wanted to spread the HRE as much as i could for the normal bonuses it did i would hardly say its gamey even.

I doubt ill ever click the last 2 reforms again unless they are alot bloody harder to achieve

Yeah, when i formed it in the demo, i thought it was wayyy to easty too. It needs more requirements and the larger nations/more prestigious nations should not accept so easily...

I had half the Empire declare war on me when I hit the second last reform!

Though by then the other half of the Imperial States were my vassals, so it was a pretty one-sided civil war. The only state worth mentioning that resisted was Bavaria, whose armies were crushed by Austrian soldiers, their fortresses reduced by Austrian cannon and their soverignity seized by Austrian nobility.

I waited until i had 80IA so i could do the 2 last at the same time and did thus not really notice which of them started the revolt.
Funny thing was that it seems random which states who resiste you, bavaria, bohemia and brandenburg all stepped in line while OPM meissen, salzburg and lothringen resisted together with 3 province champagne:rofl:

I agree that you are getting really much for a little effort but i think we shouldnt change the authority system too much but rather what you are gaining.

Instead of annexing all members you really should only annex a number of random ones and get cores on all empire provinces. Then you pretty much look like france at the beginning of the game, really decentralized with alot of vassals and a long way ahead of you until you can fully integrate your empire.
Just annexing everything right away is a tad unrealistic.

You should at least go fully decentralized...(maybe you do, I've never actually played HT3 yet...damn finals!)

But wouldnt it be a bit silly to do a reform that gives you x number of random states then expect you to diplo anex for 300 years(in case of a large empire) to get every small states into the empire one at a time?
Ofc one could always release and attack them but that would sort of make the whole peaceful union of HRE pointless.

Id rather see more expensive reforms coupled with a cooldown of maybe 20 years between each reform which would lead to a united empire not apearing before late 16th century(which also is probably a tad unlikely but not as much so as 50 years after game start :p)

luckily it doesn't seem like the AI is quite as good as uniting. In my game as Brandenburg Austria was well on their way, but they had only enacted 4 reforms after 120 years, and in my game as Muscovy in 1510 Bavaria have enacted 5 reforms.

I guess the pace of reforming the empire will come to a halt with the reformation tho.

Of course i hope there wont be so many vassals left a player will be annexing till the end of days, maybe a trigger for one province minors should be in order so they all get annexed

but about the peaceful union, is it supposed to be a peaceful thing? I would think there would be resistance all the way as you slowly pluck the priviliges away from the vassals, after the final annexation you will have gained full control of almost everything but still the strong vassals would remain and you would have to deal with them better after having consolidated your realm.

Anyway thats the way I see it but maybe im getting the wrong picture here

Perhaps, but im rather unsure if religious unity is a requirement for uniting.
If anything i think the reformation will bring more imperial authority from wars and making the states turn back to the true faith, and if anything boost the reform speed:eek:

I guess what you say make sense and having the smaller ones join and the bigger ones resist would surely be alot better than 4 random states resisting.
For example burgundy joining a country thats actually significally smaller both province and populationwise doesnt make much sense.

About the peaceful union i meant that i understood the new way of making a german empire was supposed to be a peaceful ordeal in oposite to the regular germany decision. After spending years liberating small states and defending everyone who gets attacked it feels a bit wrong to jump at everyone who doesn't want a union:rolleyes:

But more resistance would be nice in other ways, for example if the reforms game alot more infamy(after most of the late ones only benefit the emperor) which would make it harder to keep relations up with all electors and later on vassals. I'd rather see a longer tougher way there than strolling along and at the finish line having to face a large scale war.

Not that i mind large scale wars, but it just seems odd after everyone loving you every step of the way there, signing lots of reforms taking their money, legal power and other things away without complaining at all.

That's not good. Now they have to make uniting the HRE near impossibly hard (for a regular player like me), but until they do it everyone will have done it at least once and it will lose its charm and wild screams of joy of accomplishing it :D

I managed to form the HRE around 1455 as Burgundy. And now the game is no more fun as my nation is just way too overpowered. Forming the HRE should be way more difficult.

Maybe something when you start the reforms the more powerful nations (Burgundy, Milan, Austria and Bohemia for example) will start to form coalitions against the emperor (maybe include a peace option abdictate Holy Roman crown or something) while smaller nations will start leaving. (Didn't the Netherlands left the Holy Roman Empire when some Emperor started centralising the Empire)
