I have noticed that there are several units that are obsolete from the moment they become available, either because there is a unit unlocked at the same time that is superior or even, in some cases an existing unit is superior.

attachment.php

Here we have the last two possible Cav units in the Western group. Lancers have superior offensive and defensive Shock and superior defensive morale. Everything else is equal. I suspect this is a result of reducing the number of techs, so units are unlocked at the same time when previously they were a tech apart.

attachment.php

Again we have Drill and Jaeger Infantry both inferior to the Napoleonic Square.

attachment.php

Here the Ali Bey Reformed Cav is superior not only to the other unit unlocked at the same level, but also the level after.

attachment.php

Telingas Infantry is worse than both its predecessor and the unit unlocked at the same tech.

This isn't something especially major, but needs fixing.

Are you sure these units are completely equal?

You don't require a mission/event to unlock the superior ones? All of these have the same cost/upkeep/build time?

In EU3 the dot levels didn't take into account a few other factors (I think there was a varying maneuver score for units?). Try mousing over them and see if there's something more to it maybe? Though the EU3 artillery was plagued by this issue so it wouldn't surprise me if you're right.

Looks like an obvious case of inferior eastern tech - WAI as far as I can tell.

Well, it seems the units are ALL western tech, so that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I don't think the mechanics alow for that. It is solely based on tech level.

Manoeuvre is 1 for all inf, 2 for all cav and art. this is how it was in EU3 too, no? There are no other stats in the files.

Could just be for roleplay purposes lol

Well, if the units were either different (as opposed from weaker) or just the same, it makes sense to have a bit of flavor. With them weaker as it is, only a fool or an AI would choose them (no offense :))

Moreover why western units have superior stats, shoudn't the superiority of your army be covered by the ideas you pick? Modding it day one anyway.

Because the nations of western europe were far ahead in technology, tactics and equipment. They still are, unless you count insurgent victories over western powers as "equal" military strength units, in which case it is not until the First Indochina War that anyone reached that point.

The Siege of vienna marked point where western military outclassed the rest of the world, from then on only large numerical advantages gave nations outside europe a chance.

Well, but what if i want to role-play, e.g. condottori for italian nations and landsknechte for HRE and especially never Napoleonic Square as German?

Furthermore the ai should and will role-play for sure, which is good.

Last but not least in EU3 your choise was limited. (not sure by culture or capital)

All in all I like mor options.

I agree, but it would make more sense if one of the units would give a little more shock, while another gives a little more fire, for example.

Yes, but there is a valid choice between Lansknecht and Condottori. One is better in one area and the other is better in another area.

As I said that should be covered by ideas. And the sole difference between western powers and the rest is simple, they had a standing army, the rest of the world pretty much not, so dont BS me with your superiority shit, it doesnt have to do with tech but more so with discipline and moral.

Yes they had both better technology and discipline available.
