Unit experience and template changes

Dear fellow HoI4 hopefuls,

Just a quick question that popped into my mind, that maybe someone can help me get a sensible answer to:

What happens with the unit experience when the template changes?

Is it like when promoting generals that previous experience is deleted, or will the experience remain unchanged?
In case of the latter: how inviting is it to train and produce a bunch of infantry divisions with only a few infantry battalions, only to add all types of supporting battalions and companies right before the war, meaning that you only loose some infantry equipment in training, rather than losing artillery etc. etc. as well.

Or perhaps I am completely wrong and experience is tied to individual battalions?

Anyway, some clarification would be nice!

Experiance is equalised over your whole division (could be tracked in the battalions to but im not sure about that).
If you start trainning with 6 Inf Bat and you ad support companies and some other battalions later you will lose overall division experience in the same manner as new recruits have to come into the division.

So if you double the manpower of your division while changing the template you will lose the half of your training experiance.

One should also note, that if you reduce the number of battalions in a division. The AI will sort out the unexpierienced soldier. Only the 'Veterans' remain.
So reducing a division from using 12 Inf to the 'standard' 9, will boost the expirience of these divisions.

Could this be used as a technique to artificially boost unit experience beyond the normal training limits? E.g. I create all divisions with an over-strength template. Once training is done I switch them all to a normal-sized template, reap the experience rewards and cycle the extra equipment and manpower back into new over-strength training divisions.

Probably not. Because if you max training everyone in the division will have the same amount of experience. But I think I heard that manpower pool tracks experience so your new divisions might train quicker, or start higher. But I think that is null because the original over-strength divisions will probably take longer to train anyway, so all you accomplished in the end will be nothing ;)

Probably not. Because if you max training everyone in the division will have the same amount of experience.

I thought experience was basically yes or no, and overall experience level of the division was the fraction that were in the 'yes' column (e.g. 'trained' means 25% are 'experienced'). It would definitely be better if a division was modeled as something like "10% are green, 40% are trained, 40% are regular and 10% are veterans".

But I think I heard that manpower pool tracks experience so your new divisions might train quicker, or start higher.

That would also be nice. What happens to experienced manpower if you disband a division has always been an open question for me.
