I recently finished the lost amoeba event, I was thrilled and disappointed in the outcome. (Amoeba centurion) The Dps on the ship is excellent, but it’s unable to fight in large battles do to its extremely low hull, armor and movement speed. Couple with the fact that you have to protect it for 100 years, by the time it’s fully grown you mostly likely have much better ships and have hit the mid game event. After all of this I started to think why is there not any way to upgrade any/all unique ships. I personally wouldn’t mind having a research or special event/task todo for the unique ship, to make them more valuable and fun to use in mid to late game. The amoeba for example could earn a psionic shield for sitting in a super nova or a zro system X amount of year during growth, or/and gain a massive amount hull and armor(from its current 2k hull and armor) by defeating X amount crystalline. But that is enough talk about the amoeba from me. I would love to hear everyone else’s ideas about upgrades/ flat stat buffs/ unique weapon variant for the other unique ships in the game. Some of the unique ships I can think of, nanites interdictor, dark wander, the three Corvettes, the lost cruiser, psionic avatar, etc. Hopefully the Community managers will see this and pass the ideas on.

Agreed. I've been thinking the same. I love the flavor these events bring to the game, however, the points you mentioned, make them feel irrelevant and incomplete in comparison to the wider gameplay mechanics, tech progression, etc.

The other important thing for me is the inability to properly incorporate these units to a fleet. Honestly it gives me OCD just looking at the amoeba sticking out as a single fleet in the middle of all the other fleets. It can't be merged and neither can any fleet be attached to another so they travel together in the same speed. If there's a way to attach fleets together, do let me know.

If they fix this fleet merging issue and then add in some ways to upgrade the unique units, that would be fantastic. I'd love that.

For example, the amoeba could have it's own kids after a while and therefore create its own fleet, the rate of which can be tied to a pop growth tech or its own tech. I'd research the hell out of it lol. And they can also have their own tech for upgrades to armor, flagella, move speed, fire rate, etc.

I'm inclined to agree , especially with respect to Bubbles or however you prefer to call your own homegrown Amoeba. But I'd suggest a different solution: let us assign escorts that help defend specific fleets or ships: E. g. by assigning an escort of Corvettes, Destroyers and Cruisers, these ships would serve to take out missiles aimed at the protected ship, and actively pursue and destroy any ship that attacks the same.

We already cann tell one fleet to "follow" another, why not set it to actively protect another?

Event ships come in three flavors:

1. Ships you keep forever in your home system as pets/trophies, e.g., Bubbles.

2. Ships that are useful for inflating your fleet power in the early game, e.g., most early event ships.

3. Ships that are supposed to be useful but are comically bad, e.g., the automated dreadnought.

The third group is really the only one that needs attention because these are the ones that are supposed to have long-term usefulness. I don't think the random ships you grab early game need to retain their usefulness mid- and late-game.

To be honest unique ships tend to get bunged into some kind of 'anti-piracy fleet' that bobs around patrolling my territories. Heck when I play reanimators that usually what happens to the Tiyanki matriarch (despite the fact that she's slow as molasses and contributes no patrol coverage) usually she ends up patrolling the same shipping lanes with Captain AH4B and his ship....for increased awkward irony....

Some ships, like bubbles, should get special events/situations, to upgrade them.
Other ships, like dreadnought, should be able to be refit, or repaired after being destroyed (100% chance to retreat when destroyed, or respawn with 1hp?)
I rarely use any of them, mostly because they are not so strong, cant merge, and are not able to be rebuild. I mostly keep them at my home system... just because, but dont bother with getting extra event ships (including dreadnought) because those are trash.
only ship i care is Grey, but only becuase it can rebuild itself.

Event ships should excel in some way, and all have a special project to mass produce them.
So you are able to produce specialized fleets, like one super high speed special task force; one really slow but heavily armoured patrol fleet; or one high damage, low hull point suicide squad.
