Im sure many of you remember loading up Hearts of Iron 2 for the first time and mousing over those leaders; looking at Hitler's Vengeful Demagogue description and Hess, the Silent Workhorse and feel that it encapsulated the real life positions. However, once you began looking at other leaders, things got a little weird. Mao is a vengeful demagogue as well instead of Stalins profile? FDR, a man who would cajole and manipulate public opinion easily is forced to hide from the whims of the people? Some of these things required work.

Considering the fact that Hearts of Iron 3 seems to borrow many things from other Paradox games, lets throw in some Crusader Kings in there as well and have minister skills. Perhaps something like Martial / Administration / Charisma that can effect the country the character leads. This would somewhat simulate the ways that the various leaders effected the branches under their control; Goebbel's famous total war speech can be shown under his Charisma skill, Goering's constant mismanagement of his Airforce would show in his Martial skill. Of course, this is abstract in the utmost, but I think you get the idea.

Just a thought.

Hrmm... I would like to see more differentiation then in HoI2 between the various leaders, but I'm not sure that's the direction I would go. Honestly, I would rather see HoI2 style slots for most of the minor folk (though with more choices), while the Heads of State and Heads of Goverment for each of the big fellows (say anyone with 40+ IC) were all unique.

I'd say it's better not to reinvent the bicycle and just keep the HoI2 system.

The CK/Rome style skills aren't very fun if there are no means of changing them, in my opinion. They just become static modifiers in that case.

The only thing that I would like to see is a little more variety of ministers. As things stand now, you can assassinate one minister, and the result is negligible. Some nations have 2-3 ministers that are all essentially the same guy, just with a different name. I would like to see the loss of some key ministers really have an effect. In game, you can take out Marshall, and the US suffers very little ill effect. In reality, this would have been a devastating loss.

Well I see that not many people like the CK traits idea, but ideally Id like unique Leader Descriptions for famous leaders in power and generics for everyone else; at least for FDR, Stalin and Hitler, though the stubborn mule fitted Churchill and Mussolini to a T.

What bothered me is that some types were completely useless, you would literally NEVER use them if there was even one alternative - Corrupt Kleptocrat springs to mind.

Also, there was no indication of skill. Two leaders of a particular character type would have exactly the same effect.

As long as the ministers are fully moddable like EU3's advisors I'll be happy. i.e. modders can create their own minister types with whatever bonuses/penalties they want.
