If you colonize a province and have ships stationed there, then the colony is destroyed by natives... All of your ships disappear along with the colony. Not sure if this is an intended consequence or just something that happens so rarely it was overlooked.

And not sure if it related, but every time I had ships exploring, when one of them got lost the entire fleet went down.

You sure it wasnt the whole fleet having been lost to attrition? It sometimes happens if you are not microing the fleet.

No - I was microing the fleet - the message said I had lost A ship - every time the whole fleet sank - they were only on about 10% attrition. I assumed that was the risk of losing one, not the whole lot.

You say that they were only on 10% attrition .. but that's 10% damage per month. They may well have been very low on health by that point and all ships in a fleet do take similar damage. I only lost one ship due to sending a fleet a little too far to explore, the other 2 in the fleet survived at 4% and 1% health .. almost lost the lot.

Ah - thanks - that may well be it. Will watch individual ship damage more closely next time.

Message is that you lost 1 ship, but it can be multiple ship... having one message per ship would be too much, but updating the text to say that you lost one or more would be great.

It worked this way in EU 3 as well so probably an intended behavior.

Is it WAD? It isnt that far fetched to have natives destroy the ships together with the colony.

An extract from Portuguese slave raiding on west cost of Africa

"The first unfamiliar threat to Mali came not from the jungles or even the desert but the sea. The Portuguese arrived on the Senegambian coast in 1444, and they were not coming in peace. Using caravels to launch slave raids on coastal inhabitants, the Malian vassal territories were caught off guard by both vessels and the white skins within them. However, the Mali Empire countered the Portuguese raids with shallow-draught watercraft. The Mandekalu inflicted a series of defeats against the Portuguese due to the former’s expert use of poison arrows."

The OP was caught off guard most probably by natives using rafts to board his ships and set fire to them.
