Please, don't do this again. Nothing is more annoying than USA making landings all over the world, when they don't hold any ports outside of US mainland. One day they land in India, another day in Africa. You beat them there, they try to land in Europe, China, Japan, Australia... the list goes on. Sure it's great to have aggressive AI that can launch naval invasions, but there has to be some way of stopping it (capturing it's ports, hopefully), other than putting defenders on every beach in the world. Make the AI work with range restrictions, make it fight for ports, make it build it's own ports to extend it's range of operations, make it play by the same rules as human player. I don't mind if AI gets IC bonuses, or manpower bonuses, or some other bonuses, that's why difficulty levels are for, and game would be boring without a way to make it hellishly difficult. But making AI ignore rules of the game completely, like with the unlimited range, just seems like a cheap way out of writing a decent naval AI and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth every time I see AI launch a naval invasion of Japan from San Francisco.

yep - invasions should be much more costly and preplanned - i think that nr off losses should have general impact on society
as for AI ranges i also dislike such 'cheating' i wanna play realistic game not fantasy thats why i choose HoI
i understand difficulty lvls but rules are rules

More to the point, it also leads to "gamey" play. Many of the reasons to take certain areas is not so much for your use, but to deny them to the enemy. But if the enemy doesn't need them, there's very little point.

AI does not exist, btw. It's called 'the computer'. Bearing that in mind, are you really sure you want it to be playing by the SAME exact rules you are? Sounds like a recipe for guaranteed victory.

I'd like to suggest to move discussion to this thread (or maybe merge them ;) ).
HoI3 Naval Thread
If the thread is bigger, it's easier to notice it, and forum isn't spammed with hundreads of posts on similar subject. Obviously, feel free to ignore :p

On topic - I'd like to see AIs' range limited. As it is now, we have to defend entire coast... Maybe some kind of inteligent rebasing project? Since AI knows where are all the units, maybe it should consider where to put its units to intercept? Or where to put units to attack?

Rules of the game must always be the same for all parties involved, including AI...cough...computer. To increase the difficulty AI can be given certain bonuses though, but the most basic rules must remain the same. Otherwise why not just give AI's divisions ability to deploy from orbit to any location on earth within a day. I bet that would make it really challenging. Basically in a good game you have to be able to counter any of your opponents moves by playing smart. In Hoi2 only way to counter naval invasions is to garrison every single beach you own, instead of much more elegant solution of denying your enemy bases from which it can launch those invasions. Take a specific situation. You're Germany, you've beaten USSR, Britain and China. You now control 90% of European, African and Asian coastline. And to defend it properly from US attacks you literally have to put a single division, in every province with a beach. And that's just annoying and hardly any fun at all. In reality it's impossible to conduct a naval offensive over such vast distances, without having some sort of base nearby, that acts both as a staging ground for the invasion and a supply depot. If it could be done, US would simply invade Japan without bothering with all those shitty little islands with annoying airfields and ports. Silly thing is, in the game, you can actually see US invading Japan in 1942, with majority of the pacific islands still owned by Japan.

It will also be great if the AI launches "forceful invasions", Playing as Germay I was really tired of destroying constant, irrelevant 2-division assaults

There are mods that fix this problem quite well... . Hope the devs will look into it also.
