Does anyone know how this works in Vic? I've tried as a couple of italian nations but didn't get any events related to unification. Anyone know what the circumstances for the becoming of italy is?

I believe you have to control certain provinces. There is a "unite or die!" event for sardinia and two sicilies which gives you a push in this direction by delcaring war on all the other italian countries, aswell as some extra divisions and an alliance with france. Unfortunately, it seems to be completely dependent on the event choices of other countries for whether it happens to sardinia or two sicilies.
There is a text bug in the unification event (which can be fixed by players now) for some of the Italian nations and will be corrected in 1.02
