While we're on the topic of odd game mechanics, you could just switch religion groups instead. IIRC, you just need to collapse while Christian Revolutionary Rebels are running around, which I think an Aristocracy slider move can generate.

You have to be a bankrupt OPM to change religious groups, then you become the religion of the provence you broke in.
