Unification prestige gain

ok, so we've seen Scandinavia, NGF, Italy, Germany unify, and then gain a massive boost in the prestige stakes.

Now, is this 'bonus' prestige gain, or is it simply calculated as a normal annex? I ask because Scandinavia seems to get a hefty prestige hike, but can only ever be formed by adding one country to another, i.e. +100 prestige

any ideas?

IIRC, the inheritor gets all the inherited's prestige.

I think it's general game mechanisms at work; don't think any of the (re-)unification events have any large prestige boosts. The way it works, I think it's way too high.

BTW, you can include the US re-integrating the CSA in your list.

the unification process seems to catapult the new country way up in the prestige stakes. I think it seems most odd for Scandinavia, since that is just a straight 1+1 conversion.

Is there any prestige gain apart from the territory gain? Something to do with reforms?

Well, event-wise the prestige is just inherited, but my guess is that the territory gained is also counted as if it was an annexation prestige-wise, except without the BB.

I'm not exactly sure about how that works; when you annex civilized nations you don't just get the usual prestige/province that you get when taking provinces.

Maybe someone has a bit more insight in the exact workings of these rules?

You do get BB when you inherit (at least when it happens in the standard vanilla way).

I have no idea how the prestige is calculated, just that it should be looked into, since the way it works now makes for some "wacky" prestige-developments.

I think I saw the other day that when germany forms it gets a set +2000 prestige!

Do you thing that you inherit the prestige of the component nations? That would explain a lot..

I am asking because I am trying to see what the game does prestige wise for unifications, in order to assess whether I should script additional prestige for unifying 'Greater Colombia' in my AAR... if i ever get there

Prestige gain from unifing depends on how much land you annex, and some of the unification events give an extra prestige bonus too. Three hurrahs gives and extra 200, Scandinavia give 100, poor old Italy gets none though.

yeah i found a problem with unification.
North German Fed appeared, and it ended up with 800 prestige.
but when i annexed belgium it gave me like 30 prestige.
(i was playing as holland) world war 1 started in 1836
Austria, prussia, holland, france, vs england and belgium.

Well, as said, that's because unification inherits you the prestige (and military, navy and tech) of the annexed nation, while annexation just gives you the territory and prestige based on the number of territories.

Never noticed it giving you tech before, are you sure about that?
