Can the devs give us anymore information about this possible path?

from the \Darkest Hour Full\db\events DayofDecision.txt file

"Fascist path
# When the British requested embargo on Italy, PM Pierre Laval vetoed the resolution.
On January 7, 1935, a meeting between Laval and Mussolini resulted in the
"Franco–Italian Agreement". This treaty gave Italy parts of French Somaliland
(now Djibouti), redefined the official status of Italians in French-held Tunisia,
and essentially gave the Italians a free hand in dealing with Ethiopia.
In exchange for this, France hoped for Italian support against German aggression.
# France should thus be able to veto the embargo, leave its alliance with UK and form a
Stresa Front with Italy. France becomes fascist (It could even become fascist on February 1934).
# Rhineland reoccupation and Anschluss should then still happen.
# And what happens next?"

Thanks for the post Fernando! I am just struck at how much creativity is rewarded with this game, and of course there are always the challenge of time, etc. I am thinking the closest I 've seen to a fascist France path would be koenig12's mod 33, but more recently the The Bonaparte Legacy 36 mod.

Are there any other details that you can share with us idea wise for that path? For instance how it would ultimately play out etc.

There isn't much to say about it. I had not decided whether France could/should be an independent power or if it could seek an alliance with Italy against Hitler.
At the end of the day, I don't think a more conservative government à la Pétain would have changed France fundamental doctrine, ie the usual infantry, artillery and cavalry combination.
Thus, apart from changing France ideology, I did not conclude that this path would fundamentally change the overall game balance and thus did not pour much time into it.
But I am sure other people will come up with better ideas than I did. As you wrote, mods creativity is at its peak nowadays.

Never heard of the Croix-de-Feu?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croix-de-Feu

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6_February_1934_crisis

Personally, I think it could be an interesting event tree: After all, 1930s France was in a similar political situation to its southern neighbor.

Wrong, but you msut be a history buff to know it. Or a very political accuman (spelling?).

Le Colonel de la Roques (the man who lead the Croix de Feu) was in no way a facist (At least by the meaning you use here), the man did not believe in violence as a political tool, the man did have a strong democratic stance. But I do agre he hated the parlementiary system in use a that time (for good and positive reasons), was as much strongly on the right wing as he was a democrat; he was not anti semic.

To simplify, had he been a facist, or even simply a friend to facist idea, the 6th february 1934 would have lead to a coup and a facist government.

while he was a resistant from start (16th june 1940, sic), his ideas was too close of those of Charles de Gaulle, and he was kept under 'arrest in his house' until his death simply to avoid any conflict (political) with de Gaulle.

Notice, the PSF have been the biggest right wing political party in France of the whole XX century, and if not the war it was poised to win the election and make the government.

Notice also, and it was rare amongst the political men of the time, he was 'jew respectuous', the PSF regulary (before its congress) was ordering religious offices in the synagigues , on the same time it was doing so to catholic church or protestant temple. In that, it was also far from the 'austrian facism' that was inherantly anti semit.

So, yes they were close (poised should be the word) to win the election and take power, but NO the PSF and De la Roques were not facist (in fact he was almost the only one to point on the danger of the facism, the nazism and the communism; saying the three were the danger for Europe and World; that at a time were everybody thought Mussolini and Hitler were very good guys!).

In other alt-history stuff, I was playing as Czechoslovakia the other day, and when the treaty of Munich came up, I simply refused. I got 25% dissent, but the Germans took a decision that it was too risky to attack, so they just... didn't. Germany never went to war at all.

Japan still went after the US, though. I think I'd prefer if all roads led to war in the 1936 scenario - just the route taken should change.
