I don't know if anyone has faced something similar, but my city reached a population count of about 84,000. Then suddenly and without any clear reason, it started dropping at an alarming fast rate (-2000, -3000!), only to get to about 70K and start slowly rising again!

Water, electricity, garbage, entertainment, education... all were well above and beyond necessary. Didn't change a thing, just watching the city and then population drops for no reason... And then rises normally again.

Any clues?

I also experience population drop but on a smaller scale. High residential demand, energy, water, waste, services ok... I check the info panel and see something like : 150 birth, 99 deaths and still population is dropping by -150 every week. Seems illogical unless cims go away due to land value too high. I think we need a little more feedback over what is happening in the city

Yep. Try to expand and zone in smaller chunks. If all cims move in at the same time, they tend to die at the same time as well.

I honestly don't think this is the source of the problem. I've tried zoning extremely slowly, just relaxing planning out my city slowly. I never bucket paint zones. I almost always will use the marquee tool and only zone a section large enough for one business/house to grow at a time, then do the next one and so on. I still have had serious issues with everyone dying at the exact same time. The problem is larger.
