Hi everyone,

I am a big Paradox fan but I only recently bought Stellaris over the latest Steam sale. And I have already logged 80+ hours in it, even if perhaps I would prefer if the game were slightly more human- or humanoid-centric (I just can't stand some fungoid and insectoid species as allies or citizens of my empire, but I guess people have different preferences). I can't wait for the next patch; the changes to factions and the new traditions mechanics sound great!

I like the "Commonwealth of Man" backstory a lot, and I'd love if Paradox expanded on it in a future DLC (perhaps by including some more story-driven interaction with the other human faction in the game, the UN of Earth). But I am a bit annoyed by the fact that the two factions the CoM and the UNE, may spawn very far apart from one another in the galaxy, which kind of breaks the lore that the game itself establishes (wormholes have limited range). Besides, Deneb is relatively close to the Sun in the RL galaxy.

Is there any way to force the two factions to spawn close by (workarounds, mods)? I know that there are mods with pre-set maps that include both the Sun and Deneb very close to one other, but I'd like to play with a random map.

Thanks,
CR

IIRC, their colony ship was lost in a freak accident, and Earth abandoned the technology afterward. So the short range just refers to controlled travel; you can go a lot farther if you want, but where you end up is entirely random and therefore there's no good reason to do it.

I can even accept that explanation, but the fact that the RL Deneb star is quite close to our Sun in relative terms remains.

Also the fact that I would like to play them close stays, hence I reiterate the question! :)

They can appear almost on the other side of the galaxy, it varies, but they usually spawn close to each other when they do spawn.
Is it a personal observation, a statistical one, or a reading from the code?

Also, I read somewhere that when the UNE spawns, so does the CoM, and vice versa. That is, no vanilla game is possible where one spawns and the other doesn't. Is this true?

The one used in the Unity initiave is explicitly mentioned as a "powerfull, but unstable wormhole generators". The fact that out of the 6 ships only 1 made it through kind of highlights that fact. The fact that the CoM is possible if you forced the FTL travel to Warp (so no stable wormhole is possible), also highlights that fact.
Also notice that the Ship was fitted with the generator. As opposed to having a station, with the ship only having a innert "reciever" part.
So the Unity Wormhole drives might be closer to experimental Fallen Empire Jumpdrives, then the ingame wormhole drives.

Also, I read somewhere that when the UNE spawns, so does the CoM, and vice versa. That is, no vanilla game is possible where one spawns and the other doesn't. Is this true?
Not quite. If you play the CoM (or a derived faction with the flag Human_2*) and nobody else plays the UNS, it has a chance to spawn. The other way is not true.

*From my own tests, it appears that flag is broken by saving such a derived faction. So you have to mod from the stock CoM everytime you want to start a game.

Personal observation.

I may have had one or two games with just the UNE, not 100% sure, so don't take my word for it. It is however, possible for an early spaceage Earth to go FTL within a decade of game start.
