Bomber Fails
Attack on JUN Meeting Takes Attacker's Life, and Nothing More

Today a man tried to throw a bomb at a local Japanese Union of Nationalists meeting. The bomb however, malfunctioned, and detonated in the hand of the would-be terrorist, killing him. No JUN members were harmed severely in the attack, with the only injuries being cuts and bruises. So far, police have come up with no reason for why the bomber would attack a JUN meeting, and many point to it as simply being a random act of terror...

Mini: The CPA Riots

The flurry of legislation that passed the Diet and the Emperor this session has its positives and negatives. However, one bill in particular that was passed caused an uproar among the population. This was in the form of a bill called the Constitutional Principles Act. The act on the outside looks innocent enough, it simply guarantees that no party or politician within the Diet does not call for the removal of the sacred being of the Emperor, and swears to uphold his status as Emperor of Japan along with protecting the constitution, it has a much more sinister internal structure that caught the eyes of many opposition members.

"IV. That therefore, advocates of republicanism, radical social and anarchistical principles, and Freemasonry are ineligible to stand for election or service, or continuing service, for or within the Imperial Diet of the Empire of Japan unless they renounce their beliefs through swearing an oath to His Imperial Majesty and the Empire." - Article IV of the CPA

This section caused uproar among the population. This section basically outlaws anarcho-liberal and socialist parties from participating in the political process. It just so happens that the two parties of the opposition are a socialist party and an anarcho-liberal party. While the FLP denounced that they were socialist, and instead were simply a party for farmers and laborers, a committee established on the matter ruled that they were followers of the ideals of Robert Owens, and fit that description to be outlawed, though some call NLP influence on this decision. In short, this section outlawed the existence of the anarcho-liberal Constitutional Democratic Party and the "socialist" Farmer-Laborers-Party, the entire opposition. Those on the Diet who did not renounce their ways were removed from the Diet, their seats being given to runner-ups from their district, most of whom were either NLP or KAP members. In one stroke of a pen, the entire opposition was removed from the Diet. Japan had effectively become a one-party state.

The general response was not well either. 30% of the population viewed themselves as socialists and anarcho-liberals. The liberal factions of the country were not happy with the tampering of the constitution via this bill, and were angered by the recent court decision to have the government play an active role in censoring the press. Even some conservatives did not like the fact that their party has all of a sudden become sorta dictatorial, eliminating a key aspect of the democracy they grew accustomed to. The only truly happy faction were the reactionaries and capitalists. The capitalists no longer had to worry about trade unions forming with a key basis removed from the country, and could exploit their workers more then ever before without socialism around to help the laborers. Teachers were angered at the lack of free press coming out of the papers, limiting the spread of information to the young minds of Japan. Clerks who were part of socialist and anarcho-liberal groups were angered by this as well. The general population did not like the moves made by the NLP government.

Riots began breaking out across the country in response to the CPA being ratified. Socialists and Anarcho-Liberals began to protest the removal of representation in the Diet. They stated that they had representation for over 35 years under Oshiro and Date, "and that the devil Yamagata is turning our democracy on its head by removing our comrades from the Diet and refusing us a voice in the Emperor's legislature". Regardless, the NLP and KAP had basically the entire Diet under their control, and any legislation passed by them would surely result in its passing.

Regardless though, the CPA Riots were about to lead Yamagata's new government into a world of hurt...

((Poor Strata MIL and Clerks and Clergymen MIL raised, Rich Strata MIL lowered))

((Also, FLP and CDP must remove all traces of anarcho-liberalism and socialism from their parties before being allowed to participate in politics. Until then, they are barred from participating in the election and its members could face punishment for openly supporting these parties))

((Private))

Ryoma stared at the newspaper. The Opposition was dead...
"No," he said, "NO!"
He slammed his fist on the desk he had inherited from his father.
"You were the chosen one!" he shouted to himself. "You said you would destroy the NLP, not join them!!! Bring balance to Japan and Asia, not subjugate them under the NLP!!"
"What have you done now?!" he screamed again. "You helped them destroy the last remnants of Jiyudo, you monster! You did this! You ruined Japan! You have doomed Asia! DOOMED!!!!!!"
"Father?" said his eldest son Akira, standing in the doorway, "Are you okay?"
Ryoma calmed down for a second, glancing at the small shrine of his father he had made in a corner of the room and then to the picture of the Korean children at his orphanage. "Why yes, I'm okay, if you could say that," he said, "How's college going?"
"Fine, there's this lovely young and smart woman I met..."

((What will happen to people who propose social reforms? Would they suffer the same fate as socialists?))
