People of Japan,

Yet again the Right unites to defeat the National Liberal Party in the next General Election, however, they have not done this to overthrow the Date Clique and create a Japan ruled by the people rather than a few men in a smokey backroom in Edo, no, my friends, they have done this to replace the Date Clique to establish one of their own. Now is not the time to give up your principles and vote for a lesser evil than the Date Clique and their National Liberal Party, for both the National Liberal Party and the Freedom Party have lost touch with the people, chosing to march down the path to a military dictatorship with the ill-named Military Preservation & Protection Act rather than establish a state for Nippon rather than the few by voting out both the The Reform of Health-Care Act and Health Insurance Bill. If this cannot dissuade you, my friends, I cannot stress enough that voting for the Freedom Party, or the Unryu Clique, will not bring an end to the death and destruction of fellow Asiamen and our sons wrought by the Date Clique, for the Freedom Party would not conquer our fellow Asiamen in useless and destructive wars, they would intervene either with martial or diplomatic force to take away the freedom and sovereignity of the peoples of Asia, as the Americans sought to do manier times before the First Rise of the People. Thus, People of Japan, vote against the Date and Unryu Clique and for progress, peace and prosperity!

Takuma Kokuta,
Leader of the Radical Progress Party,
Deputy for Nagasaki

The allies of Admiral Unryu propagate a document, "The Three-Fold Charter", currently circulating among the opposition parties of Nippon.

Jiyudo / Freedom Party
((Protectionism | Interventionism| Pluralism | Limited Citizenship | Pacifism))

The Three-Fold Charter

I. The stated goal of the Jiyudo is to compete with the National Liberal Party in free and open elections. The Jiyudo shall never enter into any coalition or alliance with the National Liberal Party.

II. The Jiyudo is committed to giving Japanese citizens the freedom of choice in government. The party shall hold primary elections for party leadership prior to every general election.

III. The Jiyudo is totally opposed to the nepotistic politics of smoke-filled room decision-making and "dark voting". The party primaries shall be open to public viewing and any member of the Freedom Party may enroll as a candidate.

I also give support to Jiyudo.

As the chairman of the Loyalist Association, I declare the LA dissolved and its assets incorporated into the Jiyudo. I urge all members of the former Loyalist Association to join the Jiyudo as soon as possible.

((Private Jiyudo))

I suggest that we run either nationally or in at least Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai.

((Private: Jiyudo))

If not national, perhaps Kanto, Kansai, Chubu, and Kyushu?

((Hi, I know this is a fair bit in, but would it be too late to join. And if no, would anyone be able to summarize the events of the iaar so far? Thanks.))
It is never too late to join!

((Very briefly, The Boshin War and Meiji Restoration occurred in 1861. Since then not a vast amount occurred until we invaded and annexed the Korean peninsular during the last parliament. The political divide is mainly Jingoist vs Pacifist rather than Liberal v Conservative, with the ruling National Liberal/Kamikaze Party coalition being jingoist and the newly formed Liberal Party being Pacifist.))

Why are we investigating this river in Africa? I fear that Nippon is getting too large for her kimono and that it will lead to trouble.

-Tanaka

Tanaka-san, are we not the chosen people, the sons of Sun Goddess Amaterasu? Have you not seen the might that has filled the veins of our great Empire during the latest years? Why would one insist that our country should be a hut when it can be a majestic castle? Trust me, there is yet much that can be covered by the folds of a Japanese kimono!

((Private: the Emperor))

To His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor,

Having asserted dominance over the people of Chosen, and having further brought to order the regions therein, I have further established a council of nine men, respectable natives representing the nobility, the bureaucracy, and the mercantilist interests of Chosen to advise both the King and myself on matters of import – they have, with the blessings of the Sujong King, invested me with the Regency of Chosen. Seeing this as an opportunity to further legitimise my governance over the native population, and utilise more fully the existing governmental structures of our acquisitions, I have many inclinations to accept such a proposal; however, I feel that duty dictates me to request permission from Your Personage regarding the matter.

Your Faithful Servant,

Should any other such worthy figures have escaped my attention, I advise the remainder of you to suggest your own lists and the like so that those who have performed meritoriously for the Empire and the Emperor may be properly recognised.

It is also recommended that Asano Hisanori, by virtue of his exceptional service, estates, and bloodline, be awarded a title no lower than Count, and preferably of Marquis.

Lastly of note, and in keeping with prior suggestions in regards to the management and oversight of the Privy Council, I believe it is now a right and proper time to elect a President for that estimable body.

((Private: National Liberal Party))

To the members of the National Liberal Party,

Having in all areas of all spheres succeeded in in bringing the homeland from being regarded as a trivial state, a plaything of the greater powers, we now stand amongst the uppermost echelon of nations, respected and feared for our might; having therefore been the leading actor in this national renewal, it is therefore only natural that we continue on our present course, despite the ferocity of our opposition, their rank defeatism and desire to grovel and beg rather than assert ourselves; therefore, in keeping with our past successes, I believe it is only right that our vaunted Prime Minister, Marquis Oshiro, continue in his service as head of His Majesty's Government. Should he, however, feel that his long service should come to a close, as any man as accomplished as he may well feel, then we shall take to deliberating succession matters.

~ Marshal Prince Date Munenari, Governor-General of Chosen, Chief of the Army and Navy Generals Staffs, Commander of the Northern General Army, and Privy Councillor

((Private: Jiyudo))

If not national, perhaps Kanto, Kansai, Chubu, and Kyushu?

((PRIVATE : JIYUDO))

Despite the fact that the Radical Progress Party seems desperate to distance themselves from us I suggest we avoid running in Kyushu due to their dominance in the region. If we instead ran in another region, thus we would more effectively defeat the National Liberal - Kamikaze Party Alliance.

~ Hajamoto Yoshihiro

((Private: Jiyudo))

In that case Kanto, Kansai, Chubu, and Tohuku might be the wisest choices. We won't win the governorship in Kansai, but that region has too many seats to simply let the NLP and KAP have it, in my opinion.

Uesugi slowly reads over the list of various motions proposed by Date and nods.

"The Honoured Marshal Prince is most correct. I not only second his list of awards, but second the motion that Asano Hisanori be made a Count. Though I do believe that it is below this fine body to elect someone to such a provincial title as 'president', the Diet and PC passed it and thus we must do it."

((No, as "jiyu" means "liberty" Liberal and Freedom are both accurate. See for example Japan's current ruling party: the Jiyu-Minshuto, or the Liberal Democrats. Liberal is the preferred term for such-named parties in English, and not just in Japan.))
