((OK, so I think it's actually time to speak OOC and seriously (sorta). First and foremost, I take full responsibility for all this mess. Now that we got that out of the way, let me explain some stuff.

So, imagine on a sleepless night, I was full of energy, and ready to write some material. While I originally planned for my character to be just a regular samurai who wants some modernization in Japan and for them to open their borders, I decided on this particular night to send a letter just to be really, really professional in this forum game. Plus, I knew it was going to leave some form of an impact and we all know I love attention (I hope... :() But, once people responded with all that wonderful RP nonsense, I thought, "Hey, why not bend the rules and make a Socialist-esque samurai that doesn't really fit into the era? It isn't breaking the rules per se, so let's try it!"

So in general, I really think Naxhi should implement harsher rules for idiots like me, and I wish to make a new character.))

Narinori nods happily as the opinions of the various lords slowly roll in.

I'm glad this traitorous nonsense is being put in it's place.

((Yeah, but I meant the one who wrote the larger paragraph.))

((If you really want to make new characters, you could always take the honourable Japanese way out: seppuku. :D))

Asahi in prision:

I can't wait any more. I know I'm going to be executed, and there's nothing I can do to help it. At least I request one final thing: let me be honorable one time at least, and give me a blade to perform sepukku. I know I'm a traitor, and I dishonoured Japan and the samurai, but let me die pacefully.

Dear fellow Japanese,
I have good news for most and bad news for some. The samurai Tarou Seita, his wife and two children have drowned on their journey to the Portuguese colony of Macau. Apparently their ship was too weak and frail to carry them, and it capsized on them. Seita-san has granted me permission to send out this final letter days before his departure to Macau just in case he died, so may his watery corpse rest.

Sincerely,
Seita-san's brother

((BTW, Naxhi gave me permission to kill off my character. New character will be up in a bit.))

Hideki Seita.png

Hideki Seita
(秀樹清田)

Born: June 26, 1813 (aged 28)
Class: Samurai (Monk)
Traits: Cartographer and Careful
Region: Kanto

Background: Hideki Seita was born on a farm near the town of Edo in 1813 as the youngest of six boys to grain farmer Takehiko Seita (b. 1785) and his wife Airo (b. 1789). Hideki and his siblings largely remained illiterate and extremely unimportant and poor for a majority of their early childhood until Hideki was six, when a local monk samurai named Kichirou offered to train the boys in Edo for free. Hideki finished his education at the age of 20 in 1833, developing a close father-like bond with Kichirou that no other sibling had with him.
As of this, he is a devout Shinto believer and is a staunch supporter of the Tokugawas, completely different from his radical eldest sibling Tarou. Hideki currently has no wife or children.

Satake (1838-1841): A New Wave?

The advisory period of Head Elder Daimyo Satake pressed on. The new Shogun would be guided by not only the Roju but by his ever present father, Tokugawa Ienari. Yet, their were pressing matters at hand for the Shogun to deal with. First was the passing of the "Save the Emperor Agreement", an agreement aimed directly at the two "modernizing" samurai that were hunted down the last two years. Tarou Seita would be confirmed dead by his brother in a letter to the Daimyo Council, having drowned in an attempt to reach Macau in China. However, little mercy would be shown to Asahi Daika, who had his own clause in the Agreement condemning him to death. He would be hanged soon after the passing of the Agreement. After his hanging, a nation-wide manhunt began for those who sympathized with Seita and Daika, a clause of the Agreement. Those who were found to be sympathetic with the two would be hanged. The Agreement also created a new ideology in a sense for Japan to outlaw, Kyōwashugi. Kyōwashugi was a collection of western ideals and beliefs in western society that was declared illegal to spread to other Japanese citizens. The Agreement also made trade in Nagasaki very restricted due to the events surrounding the passing of the Agreement. This angered the Dutch, the one trade partner of the Japanese for the last century, and heavily restricted the flow of western ideals, even though it was very small to begin with. Last, the Agreement made sure that all those caught sympathetic to the traitorous Samurai would be put on trial not in front of the Shogun, but in front of the Emperor. This angered the Shogun, who had absolute power for nearly two centuries, and he saw it as a sign that the Daimyo were trying to curb his power.

(A Dutch trade ship seen rarely in Nagasaki)
The other articles presented to the Daimyo Council were dishonored and condemned as "Nanban filth". The biggest of these was the Reformation of the Japanese Government, which not only earned mass displeasure from the Council, but from the Roju and even the Shogun himself. The Shogun almost called on the writer to commit seppuku, but patience one over him. However won other article did pass, the War Adviser Act. The Act basically created two separate jobs almost. There was the War Adviser, who suggested what nations should be attacked and why, as well as manage the army during times of war. The War Adviser would basically be a guide for the other Daimyo, advising them on where to put their troops. The most controversial part was the appointment of the Chief of the Japanese Army, a military position that would oversee all armies. This part received displeasure from the other Daimyo and the Shogun. After all, leading the military was up to the individual Daimyo, with the Shogun being "Commander in Chief". Thus, the Shogun made sure that this part would be scrapped from the War Adviser Act. ((War Adviser Act has passed, but the part about the Chief of the Japanese Army was cut out by the Shogun)).

As the years progressed, Daimyo Satake began to be bored from the affairs of the past year, and decided to leave matters of advising the Shogun in the hands of the Roju and the Advisory Council. However things would begin to slowly pop up. In Fukui, the Obama Clan had reported that there was a large collection of fish this year. The Roju would follow the suggestion of Shimazu Narioki, Daimyo of Kagoshima and Ōmetsuke of the Shogun, in handing out the fish to the poor. The suggestion was not from Daimyo Uesugi since he was away at his summer home at the time out of reach. The next decision the Roju would make would be on a mining situation in Amari in the Okinawa island chain, where a decision had to be made on whether or not lives had to be risked to obtain iron ore. Okinawa was a special area for Japan. It was a vassal to the Emperor, but it was also a tributary to the Qing Empire in China. Okinawa was a trading port used by the Japanese to trade with China and Korea. With that in mind, Okinawa was not ruled by a regular Daimyo, but by a King. The King answered to the Emperor of Japan and the Shogun. The Shogun would follow the advice of Motoro Kusanagi, Daimyo of Yokohama, and Foreign Adviser to the Shogun. The decision was to force the miners to dig deeper, costing the miners heavily in casualties from accidents, and spurring militancy among the population.

At the end of the cycle, the Roju would have be selected again, and the Daimyos would put themselves up for the Shogun's approval. No one was sure who would get in and who would be kicked out. Westernizers were seemingly silenced. However, reforms always have a way of trickling in, and it would have to be by consent of the Roju to allow reforms to happen.

-----------------------------

Player Actions: Red you are dead, and you all can now decide to reform anything in the military category of reforms. Also, now starts the declaration period for those wanting to be part of the Roju. Declare your intent to seek a spot, and once the period ends, I will put it up to vote in your region. Declaration period ends Sunday at 9:00 PM EST or Monday at 1:00 AM GMT.

Dear all Japanese who wish to listen,

I sincerely apologize for all the radical, pro-Nanban, and extremely barbaric acts my foolish eldest brother Tarou Seita has caused. I am filled with complete sorrow for the madness, stupidity and insanity he has caused in this great country of Nippon. May the kami Amaterasu give him eternal life in Heaven, and may kami Ryujin cleanse his impure, lifeless body in the waters of Asia.

From yours truly,
Hideki Seita, Samurai in Kanto (秀樹清田、関東でのサムライ)

((That was faster than I though. Before making a new character I'll search about Feudal Japan, and will make a new, more plausible and accurate samurai. A ronnin, to be able to find a Daimyo who I can agree with. Also, he will be a traditional samurai. Perhaps one who was a bit influencied by Asahi and Seita's ideals, but he won't be as extremist. He may be a little inclinaded to get reforms, but not so suddenly and won't know anything about democracy, socialist or nanban. To make a quick summary, what Asahi would have been have I made him more historical plausible and correct))

I suggest that we do not change the military in any way. The War Adivser decree was enough change for two centuries. I do not want to see Nippon become a war-like nation that is enslaved to western goods,

I will also seek to lead Kansai's daimyo in the Roju. Kansai needs a leader that advocates for tradition and peace.

A really happy Ohba writes a letter.
I must send my congratulations to all the Daimyos and Samurais who voted "yes" to my act. Nevertheless I respect those who voted "no" or "abstain" so I decide that I won't propose new acts until our nation will be less conservative.
I hope that my act isn't seen as a way to damage the Emperor or the Shogun but as an opportunity to save us from the western menace.

Unlike Lord Matsui, I will not sacrifice the lives of Japanese men - noble-born or otherwise - on the field of battle for no other reason but for the sake of some slavish adherence to tradition. The past few years have made plain that Japan needs more, and not less, reform of its outdated and harmful practices: such as Sakoku, and improvement in the state of the Shogun's army and navy.

Hence, I intend to stand for re-election to the position of Roju of Kyushu and pledge to campaign for the introduction of Imported ships and the introduction of both modern dockyards and shipbuilding techniques to revitalise Japan's civilian and military shipbuilding industries. I encourage all Roju candidates from Western Japan (Shikoku, Chugoku and Kansai) to do the same. If Lord Uesugi is serious about investing in our nation's port infrastructure, then I also expect to see his support for this sensible initiative as well.

-- Hosokawa-dono, Lord of Higo and Roju of Kyushu
