United Nations of Earth, anno 2238.

“Humans. You lot are a curious race.”

The Watcher chuckled.

“I wonder…”

He scoffed.

“What was that, my friend?”

The Watcher looked up, slowly.

“Ah! If it isn’t……..”

He looked closely at the creature in front of him.’

“Tell me, don’t you have somewhere to be? Not that I don’t value your company, but…”

The creature shrugged.

“My galaxy just became swallowed by the Scourge. I have time.”

He looked at the monitor in front of him.

“From a Watcher to a Watcher… Do you think they will figure it out?”

The Watcher looked out into the nothingness.

“What will be has been. It will so pass, perhaps. They did find the Infinity Sphere within less than a decade. There is a possibility.”

He sighed.

“Then again, these humans have left it alone for over 30 of their years now. Ah well. They have time.”

He paused.

“Or do they…”

The creature smiled.

“I have no doubt. This galaxy is set for a rather weak time of crisis, when it comes. And whether they use the Infinity Sphere or not, they are off to a decent start, no?”

The Watcher turned to the monitor and cocked his head.

“They have indeed managed to settle a lot of space recently. Many of their settled planets are poorly suited to them, though.”

He clucked.

“The humans are a curious race. It will be a pleasure to watch them. Will you join me, my friend? I have ordered dinner enough for us both.”

Military strength, anno 2238.

Science department, anno 2238.

Diplomatic situation, anno 2238.

I hope it will be a good read. I'm a) playing on 2.0, first game ever with all these new features, b) playing on and just writing whatever seems interesting to write about as I play (I have a plan for the next chapter already, probably writing it tomorrow!) and c) trying a new style. So here goes the neighbourhood! Hehe, I hope to survive is all.

I was playing around earlier with a post-apocalyptic set of humans... then decided cockroaches would be more fun.

Hehe, my main worry right now is some cockroaches... Much stronger than me and my closest neighbours...

What are your galaxy settings?

I have random empire placement, small galaxy, 1.25x habitable world and primitives. I've met 4-5 empires so far and one primitive.

I did have those in mind, as well as the Watcher in Marvel, when I began to write.

The Watcher scratched his chin.

“They did it.”

The creature winked.

“Not what you expected, was it my friend?”

The Watcher shrugged.

“Not this early, no. But perhaps I should have known.”

A moment of silence.

“But the Infinity Sphere ended communications. Such gratitude. Well, perhaps later…”

He sighed.

“But those cockroaches. The humans have expanded their reach for a long time. But these cockroaches are bordering them, they are superior in fleet and technology.”

The creature laughed.

“They are but children, these humans. But they learn. Their military is expanding at a breakneck speed.”

The Watcher sighed again.

“But the cockroaches are laying claim to a lot. I wonder…. will there be time for them to finish their search for the truth behind the Cybrex?”

The creature sat down in the couch, stretching his legs.

“There might be time. Or there might not. Now, how about some dessert?”

Oh, that was just in another galaxy. My crisis setting is 0.25x and 2400 or something, I hate the feature.

oh, I can understand why. From 1.9 I definetely enjoyed the first half of the first century the most. Diplomacy, many players, struggle for territory, uncertain fights.
The crisis feels more like: you won the game, but let us throw one big, dumb enemy that you just have to fight against.

That's my experience too - on the two occasions I have played long enough to trigger a crisis.

However, I have read AARs and other accounts of the game where the Crisis was something else entirely. A very engaging section of the game in its own right, just when the game could have been getting stale.

Yes, that makes me wonder too. Out of 4 games I played, I faced the crisis only once and only because I deliberately waited for it.
As the game develops slower in 2.0 it may change significantly though...

Indeed. And if you have fun and am not prepared, it kinda ruins the fun too. Mostly it's an annoyance, so I tend to turn them off or make them weak (and late).
