since HOI 4 is fairly certain of being much more capable of non-historical outcomes on every level, i've gotta ask:

is there going to be any chance of expanding, upgrading, and building into the less traditional and more unconventional kinds of land, sea, and air vehicles that were historically used (Submarine aircraft carrier, Hybrid Battlecarrier), not-too-obsolete-but-still-feasible alternatives that were used (Airborne Aircraft Carrier), and even vehicles (as buildable units) that were ahead of their times like the first Sikorsky helicopters like Vought-Sikorsky VS-300 and Sikorsky R-4 (R-4 = first mass produced helicopter, 1942/1944).

it would be a good change from only being able to produce the tried and true vehicles. especially if the AI is capable of trying new things.

i'd prefer vaniila:)
No, let them create standart game with standart units and then they can and I hope will create DLC with secret weapons. It would be better that they can focus on this tasks separately and make it more fully and thoughtfully.

Those are actually even pre-WW2 technology.
The last were put out of service in the mid-30s.

There is a reason why they were put out of service. it's a WW2 game, not an alternaive SF WW2 game. It's not Silent Storm universe or Wolfenstein.

Still, Airborne aircraft carriers might bring quite a bit of hurt to either allied convoys (while being able to outrun naval assets) or to German u-boats, establishing aircover outside of the reach of continental bases.

Not really. The aircraft still would be extremely light and you can't carry enough fuel and munitions to resupply them often enough.

They did have airships in a recent strategy game a few years back (very detailed but boring and weird outcomes). I really liked them
as the game used sprites and seeing the US ones with the blue centered stars flying off the coast was cool! Cannot remember the
game name tho, am getting old...

I certainly wouldn't mind plausible alternate history vehicles. That is, tanks, planes and ships like the Maus super-heavy tank. Things that could have made it into the war, but didn't for various reasons. Already in HOI3, we had a few of these. We could also research helicopters, albeit abstracted to a morale boost for infantry and airmen (medical evacuation and pilot search-and-rescue). If there are vehicle types that would be interesting to play around with, no matter how strange or situational they might be, a bit like the Rocket Interceptors in HOI3, then by all means, consider putting them in.

So...

Not the Mouse then.

... but didn't for various reasons...

like being an engineering impossibility.

Unless you want a fantasy Steampunk/World War/War of the Worlds/Star Fleet/Lord of the Rings type DLC, which I'm all in favour of BTW.

If you want weird shit in your game... Google my favourite tank of the war, the Type 2 Ka-Mi. There were 180 something of these made.

You'll soon forget about the 1½ prototypes of the Mouse that were just barely driveable, could never have worked and only had one turret between them.

EDIT:

that would be awesome. haven't there been any actual attempts at twin turret tanks?

I think the M3 Lee/Grant was probably the last gasp of the multi-turret tank. 37mm/2pdr AT gun in the turret. Side sponson mounted howitzer and a profile like a cowshed.

On the plus side, it was internally spacious and... available.

Not a brilliant tank but useable in its time. Although I think it would have been better for all concerned if the US had built Matilda IIs & cruiser tanks, as requested. This would have given them a lot of experience in building effective tanks and, ultimately, this experience would (IMHO) have made the Sherman a better vehicle from the beginning.

Which were produced in greater numbers the Lee/Grant or the Char B1? This latter being the only other twin gun tank of significance that comes to mind for me.

Bob Semple tank GET!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Semple_tank

In all seriousness, I don't think this fits the core idea of HOI well - we alter history through war, diplomacy, and realpolitik, not through crazy tech. Stray too far into odd technology, and it's no longer recognizable as WW2.

BUT! It is something that can potentially modded, if tools will allow - and that's the direction devs should go in, I dare say.

Which were produced in greater numbers the Lee/Grant or the Char B1? This latter being the only other twin gun tank of significance that comes to mind for me.
There were others - T-28, a Polish 7TP, to name a few. But they were all driven into extinction by German Panzers.

I wouldn't mind a single dev doing a Aztec style DLC that you can turn on or off and costs a few dollars to add some interesting tech that if there is a need and a market Pdx can fill.

However I would prefer a better base game to having this added.
