I am beginning to think that the Incas must have some real diplomatic gurus acting as Emperors in my IGC-games. So far the only nation to conquer the Incas in any of my games are the nations I play. Heck, I’ve even conquered the Incas as Scotland , leading to me having the former Inca Empire as my only colonial possession. What is with the Spanish and why are they so notoriously incapable of capturing the Incas? I mean, after all, the Aztecs are all being dealt with properly. Two or three wars and off they go. I do not mean that all games should have historical outcomes, but the Incas should at least occassionally be annexed by Spain!

(Or maybe the Spanish just had a big stroke of good luck when they captured the Incas in RL :) )

What is your experience on this matter, gentlemen?

Most of the time, it's because of european wars. Since the Spanish waste all their money fighting the French, they have very few left to colonize and wage war in the New World.

When I played a game with the Incas a few months ago, I reached 1650 without any difficulty; these damn Spanish wouldn't attack me, leaving me with an inflation of about 160 ducats. When I declared them war, though, I was completely overran in a matter of months, even though I outnumbered them by something like 20 to 1...

Multiple strokes of luck I'd say. :)

Actually it was more politcal acumen than luck. Aztecs were not very popular among their subjugated subjects, leading to a great many allies flocking to the Spanish cause of crushing the Aztecs.

This, as so many other things are not in either EU1 (lack of game engine) or EU2 (lack of time/money I guess, what with HOI likely already in the pipes, or at least pipe-dreams)

Weell.. if you put it that way I guess you are right..hmm.. I'm all for historical inevitability, but if america would have been discovered via Brazil instead of via West Indies I guess that the Aztecs might have destroyed themselves by civil war just like the Mayas and Zapotecs already had..

But that is more the matter for a history thread, so if someone wants to continue this fascinating discussion he'd better start a new thread and post a link in this one (so I can find it :D)

I think I'm pretty stupid BTW to start talking about the Aztecs when the thread is about the Incas  :p

Incas is even worse, since Spain has an even harder time to get soldiers enough there to beat them in the IGC.

Incas are more fluky in their destruction, but I might want to point out that the first try failed, and also that when the Inca empire was being taken over by the Spaniards they only took about two thirds of it, the rest was already being conquered from the south by another expedition.

Incas were more stable, IMHO, but seems to have suffered from absolutism to a horrendous degree, Aztecs replaced their emperor when he sucked up too badly to the Spianiardsm but I can't recall if the Incas did the same. For futher historical Inca discussions I suggest the same method as the one outlined for Aztecs above. (Unless Carolus Rex is so post-starved that he'll accept anything in his forums to have something to mod :D;))

So, is there anything to do about the Incas, or do you just have to leave them sitting on Western South America ’til 1792? I tried to tweak the Spanish AI-files during the weekend, but I can’t say that anything really happened.

Do what you use to do, take them out for your nation.

(Or if you are feeling nice, play Spain for a year or two, making them take them out, then revert to your own nation :))

Hmm…that is just a really good idea Nikolai II! I’ll do just that if Spain doesn’t conquer the Incas at a given date (hasn’t happened yet in other games) I’ll just hope that the AI doesn’t mess up my Sweden all to much during that time.:p
