So, the unbidden have invaded next to my space. Everyone is freaking out and giving open borders. Everyone is now sitting on their butts while I'm doing all the hard work.

Is Paradox really expecting the player to do all the work? I would assume the AI would actually, you know, do something? Anything else?

I'm assuming it's a bug for the AI to go do "something" in the corner while the player deals with the mess.

Does any AI have a reasonable chance against them? It could likewise be argued to be a bug if they charged at the Unbidden willy-nilly despite having no chance.

With the exclusion of awakened fallen empires I have the feeling that none of the AIs even on insane are able to beat a crisis on their own. Swarm only kills itself by faulty mechanics in 1.4 but the regular empires cant stand the unbidden alone I never witnessed it. (Not counting AI revolution as this "crisis" is currently ridiculously weak)

They need a way to have a coalition form then or something. I'm in a federation, you would think they would get off their duff to help.
I'm not sure if I have my "rally to my fleet" function on. Worth trying to see if they come to it, get a few more fleets together and I confident in a strategy.

Strategy: Keep forcing them back to their one portal system by jumping in and out a single corvette. Position my fleet(s) and have them jump into me and destroy them one at a time.

When the Batarians were invaded by the Reapers, no one gave a crap about them.

They were xenophobic isolationists too. Might have had something to do with it.

If Guardians of Galaxy event fires with FE, it can lead to, well, interesting behavior. FE asks everyone to join their federation to stop the crisis. I joined, but for some reason, not many others joined. FE fleets just waited on their capital until few unbidden wandered into MY borders - then they started to move, killed the Unbidden and went back hanging on their capital.
My theory is this: they are letting the galaxy that did not join Guardians of Galaxy just die. They don't engage the crisis fleets unless it happens near GoG member state - in my case, Unbidden portal was located pretty far away from me of the FE. I guess that declining offer to join GoG is basically "well then I won't help you with the crisis."
That is related only to Guardians of Galaxy event, of course.

I have seen an Awakened Empire attack, but since there is no formal declaration of war my federation associates are under no obligation to assist.

This is the real flaw.

I can understand non-aligned polities sitting on their hands and waiting for the other powers to do something. Let the other guy burn his fleets stopping the threat.

But because there is no formal war in place, federations act like they are at peace. This shouldn't be happening. Starfleet would not sit back and let Andor, Vulcan, and Tellar get wiped out in a genocidal attack without at least trying to do something.

Allies in a defensive pact don't give a damn, either.

To further clarify your point, in my game, the "follow ally" button is completely broken. Aka, not working what so ever. I was able to defeat the unbidden, and then got into a war against a fallen empire. "Give me your fleets" I say, "we can beat them together" I say, "follow me" I say. Get halfway down the field of battle before noticing they are just screwing around at a local space port.

I'm at my wits end. Federation game is impossible to play or beat without this fixed.

Besides that, my Federation victory is broken too. Anyone got a nice desk for me to flip?

The only help i've ever gotten is from a fallen empire and even then the AI was terrible for the majority of the war.. The only way I was able to get them involved was by giving them some of my star systems near where the unbidden were attacking. Before that they just didn't care at all. Initially they suicided all their fleets while trying to attack the unbidden prematurely. Later once they had rebuilt their fleets the fallen empire FINALLY helped me after I had already fought the unbidden back in a war that took YEARS. By this point they had already wiped out multiple civilizations. For whatever reason the fallen empire decided to show up and help me as I pushed to destroy their anchors/portal. Some pretty epic battles with our joint fleets ensued in that push. It's just a shame that the rest of the galaxy doesn't really band together and do the same. Realistically the galaxy would unite if invaders showed up and started destroying entire civilizations.

It is true that close civilizations don`t react to Unbidden threat. I lost game where I had advanced civilization with strong federation. Around me were two fallen empires but unbidden attacked and started destroying my worlds no one reacted. And Unbidden arrived with huge numbers. My fleet was destroyed and gave up game.

Last game the unbidden show and my 120k fleet simple clear them alone, dragonslayer-cautious-5starts almirant helped a bit, the funny thing is that 5 year after that a FE turns a Guardian of the Galaxi, against an already solved crisis XD. I went pretty mad at frist but then I solved it by declaring a war against de Guardian, take is ring worlds and purge the shit out of him.

Another FE had the enigmatic fortress in his frontier so he destroid it, now no one can reach it secrets.

Basically this@
Ruined too many of my campaigns, can't play with disasters anymore.
If the Unbidden spawn onto of you in the mid game, it's usually impossible to stop them since no AI will help you.
Then its pretty much game over..

This has to change in the new dlc.

If the crisis put its self in a state of war with every other civ then no on would be able to form federations as you can't form while at war.
A unique form of 'at war' is needed that still allows federation formation but triggers all the usual activity.
