I'm playing through another game of HOI3, for fun, and I noticed a problem which I hope is avoided in HOI4.
As Italy, I stayed out of the Axis but I still wanted an empire. So in 1939, a week after Germany invaded Poland, I declared war on Yugoslavia and Romania jumped in to defend them. Knowing that Greece, Hungary and Bulgaria might join a faction before I finished the war I also declared war on them.
So it was Italy against Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, and Romania. Now it wasn't my best game so my units weren't a well prepared as they could have been and really the 5 countries together should have defeated me....except they didn't act together. I could just pick one off at a time with the rest waiting until I got to their borders.
This is a problem.
So in HOI4 will there be some system whereby unaligned co-defenders (especially those who share a border), such as this example, can work together? I somehow doubt it.
My solutions:
1) a coordination event that fires allowing the unaligned neighbours to work together. ie. Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Hungary's troops could have moved into Yugoslavia onto the front lines to fight me. OR
2) a temporary faction event that fires causing the co-defenders to opt into the joining of a faction that lasts as long as the war lasts.
Both options have their merits, but most of all I want to make sure the missing unaligned co-defending mechanic that was missing in HOI3 is somehow incorporated into HOI4.
