I've been looking for solutions but I tried permissions, reinstalling several times, verifying cache through Steam and still no avail.

I am on Windows 7 64 bit, not a mac.

Hi,

Have you tried to reinstall the vcredist manually as explained in the sticky topic, where you reinstall the vc resist x64 manually from _CommonRedist/vcredist? But without manually deleting the msvc* files, only with reinstalling the vc runtime.
The greyed button happens when the game startup fails to initialize properly and this seems to be the most common reason for this issue.
If that does not help can you attach the output_log.text found in the game installation folder under Cities_data?

Without deleting or uninstalling anything, I went into D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010 and ran vcredist_x64.exe. I selected to "repair". It worked for a bit and said done. I then launched the game and I now have a "new game" option. Thank you!

Background, just in case it helps:

This is an old Vista 64 bit install. I actually see 22 different options matching "microsoft visual c++ ..." under "programs and features" so there are a lot of versions that various programs have installed over the years.

Anyway, I should be able to play now. The one big problem I still have is that the game doesn't support my primary monitor's resolution of 1200x1920 and also refuses to let me run it in a window on a secondary monitor (which is 1920x1200 and the game should be happer). So, I would still love to see better support of random resolutions and/or the ability to push the game into a window on a secondary monitor.

@zuzmaw: We should have a fix for that too in the upcoming patch. In the meanwhile, create a folder at c:\users\*\appdata\roaming\colossal order\cities_skylines, replacing * by the username shown on your log. If in the file browser you can enter a folder at that path, your game will most likely start working.
It is possible you are missing more than one folder in the hierarchy, in that case, create each of them one by one.

The folder up to "roaming" should already exist on your system, but you probably need to create "Colossal Order", and then in that folder "Cities_Skylines".

The location mentioned above is incorrect. The *correct* location is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines

Are you sure it's in roaming? I don't have a Colossal Order folder in there.
