Unable to play in Ironman mode

First up, apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I'm having an issue with Ironman mode. Namely, that it simply isn't working for me. When I try to start a new game, the Ironman mode button is disabled with the message "The game data files have been altered in some way, disabling Ironman mode. Check so you don't have a mod loaded or verify your game files."

I've deleted all of my mods (not that I was running any of them, anyway), and I've verified my local game files a few times now. The only thing I haven't done yet is re-download the content, and I don't want to do that just yet.

In case it's important: game version is 2.0.1 and the checksum is AOWR.

The checksum should be XFMJ for patch 2.0.1.

Verify your CK2 cache data through Steam:

If you still have a wrong checksum afterwards, you may have some rogue files lying around causing problems.
A fix for that is indeed to redownload; delete everything from the CK2 folder except ck2.exe and Verify again. That will redownload the entire game and afterwards you should have the proper checksum.

Yep, it looks like I'm going to have to redownload everything. *sigh* I was hoping to avoid that, though.

Is there a difference between using the method you suggested and hitting the "Delete Local Game Content" button in the Properties screen in Steam, though?

In fact, IMO you should do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local files" in Steam
- manually delete all files left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a verify when done.
